2024 Cadillac CT5 Recommended By Consumer Reports

Based on the results of its Auto Reliability Survey, Consumer Reports assigned a Recommended rating to the 2024 Cadillac CT5 luxury sedan – the first occasion on which the nameplate has received this distinction.

The report went into detail both on how the 2024 Cadillac CT5 performed and about the problem areas owners encountered during regular use of the vehicle.

The report notes the dimensional differences between the Cadillac CTS sedan that the publication considers the predecessor to the CT5 and the current 2024 Cadillac CT5, although that’s not the case. The interior of the CT5, it points out, is more spacious even though the CTS was somewhat longer. The CT5 is also a little larger than several direct competitors like the Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4.

CR testers said that, on the upside, the 2024 Cadillac CT5 offers “a dynamic ride and handling combination that should impress those who like driving.” The main negative for the model is a “powertrain that lacks polish and could be a turnoff for consumers,” referring to the base turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine. Specific pluses included good handling, braking, comfortable front seats, and “fit and finish,” while the rough transmission operation, lack of rear-seat headroom, and loud engine were listed as failings.

Crunching the numbers from the survey as well as test data gave the Cadillac CT5 a 69/100 overall score in the Luxury Compact Cars segment. The road test gave the sedan a solid 76/100, while other ratings put the vehicle in average territory with 45/100 predicted reliability and 3/5 predicted owner satisfaction.

Driving experience (acceleration and braking), comfort, and styling all got top marks with scores of 84/100, 86/100, and 83/100 respectively. Value was ranked at a literally middle-of-the-pack 54/100. Overall, 64 percent of 2024 Cadillac CT5 owners surveyed said they would buy the model again.

The Cadillac brand itself got an average rating this year. Notably, unlike many other brands where an average rating resulted from a mix of high-scoring and low-scoring models, Cadillac’s vehicles were consistently average, indicating equally consistent design and manufacturing capabilities.

Consumer Reports notes that it used a large sample size in its survey, with owners reporting on the problems with 330,000 individual vehicles to give the final picture. The study looked at 20 different possible problem areas, ranging from minor annoyances to major mechanical faults, to determine each model’s reliability.

  1. Regardless of whether or not this car is recommended by Consumer Reports, get one before Mary Buick Envision Made in China-Barra pulls the plug on it and replaces it with a more expensive vehicle, which is her policy.
