2014 Chevy Tahoe Good Used SUV Under $20,000, Says KBB

The 2014 Chevy Tahoe sport-utility won a place on the Kelley Blue Book list of “10 Best SUVs Under $20,000,” published in late November to provide a cross-section of the better quality pre-owned SUVs in multiple configurations.

The list includes a broad spectrum of SUVs, ranging from daily drivers to hybrids and models with enhanced off-road capability, with the 2014 Chevy Tahoe listed for its cargo hauling characteristics.

KBB recommends the 2014 Chevy Tahoe on the basis of its ample cargo space and robust towing chops. In addition to being able to seat up to nine passengers, the model year offers 108.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the front seats, and can also tow up to 8,500 pounds depending on the exact configuration of the vehicle.

This recommendation contrasts with a Consumer Reports analysis from 2021, which identified the 2014 Chevy Tahoe as one of ten models most likely to develop issues with its paint. The same study rated the 2014 Tahoe with one out of five stars for both reliability and owner satisfaction. Problems included transmission issues and water leaks.

As a reminder, the latest model year of the Bow Tie SUV, the 2024 Chevy Tahoe, is now in production after delays caused by the recent UAW strikes. The 2024 vehicle did not receive the expected mid-cycle refresh, which was moved forward to the 2025 Chevy Tahoe instead.

The 2024 Chevy Tahoe’s official online configurator is now live and pricing details are available for all six trim levels, which include the LS, LT, Z71, RST, Premier, and High Country trims. Starting MSRP was boosted by $2,000 for all trim levels, while the destination freight charge grew by $100, rising to $1,995 from $1,895. As a result, all 2024 trim levels are now $2,100 more expensive than their 2023 equivalents.

The 2024 Chevy Tahoe offers three powerplant choices. These include the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L83 gasoline engine developing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine providing 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

The GM T1 platform provides structure to the 2024 model, while production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

    • Expect 15 years total out of a quality truck, a few more if you are lucky. Thus, one is paying $4k a year on something that is liable to be prone to maintenance. Might as well just order a Korean Trax.

  • Speaking o fthis version, Our 2012 LTZ, is beginning to nickel and dime us. Not as bad as our 2006 did, but it's beginning. One says, 15 years is good. Not here in the northeast. Even aftermarket rustproofing, can't help mother nature in these parts. I't a shame how much we paid for this back when. Just have to keep our maintenace up as we have. Can't afford new on now.

  • Kathy I know your pain we live in NJ and I grew up in Warwick NY in the northeast. The northeast winters kill the undersides and body panels of cars and trucks... I even know of a guy who used to take his car/ truck home every day after work and pressure wash it with soap... The car /truck still rusted it's the salt and brime they use on the roads in the winter while yes it makes travel safe it slowly destroys cars it's a double edged sword.
