The current fourth-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 made its formal introduction for the 2019 model year, with a mid-cycle refresh debuting late in the 2022 model year. Looking ahead, the overhauled fifth-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 is expected to debut in 2026 for the 2027 model year. Which leads us to ask – what improvements would you like the next-gen Chevy Silverado 1500 to receive?
For those readers who may not remember, the refreshed 2022.5 Chevy Silverado 1500 followed the launch of the carryover 2022 Chevy Silverado LTD (“Limited”), the latter of which was offered as a stop-gap measure until production of the refreshed 2022.5 model year got underway. Compared to the pre-refresh model, the refreshed Silverado 1500 offers a long list of updates and changes, including the new-for-2022 Silverado ZR2, which is aimed at off-road enthusiasts thanks to a long list of dirt-duty equipment designed to enhance the pickup’s off-road capability. Highlights include front and rear e-lockers, MultiMatic DSSV dampers, off-road chassis calibrations, 33-inch off-road tires, skid plates, a new high-approach steel front bumper, and 11.2 inches of ground clearance.
The refreshed Silverado 1500 also introduced a completely overhauled cabin, with a 13.4-inch color touchscreen included as standard. A 12.3-inch configurable instrument panel is also offered.
As for the powertrain options, the latest Chevy Silverado 1500 lineup offers four engine possibilities, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and finally, the new-for-2023 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. Transmission options include either the GM 8-speed automatic or the GM 10-speed automatic, depending on the engine selected.
So then, dear reader, we want to know – what improvements would you like the next-gen Chevy Silverado 1500 to receive? Tell us by posting your suggestions in the comments, and remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevy Silverado news, Chevy news, GM business news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

Reliability !
The number one thing to change, eliminate the miserable cylinder deactivation. I love my 22 Sierra 6.2, but can’t stand the engine vibration. It makes me consider brand “X”.
Build a Raptor and Tex killer. This means a engine with more horsepower than the competitors.
automatic transmission is only available. It lasts between 70,000 to 90,000 miles and very expensive to repair!!
Want a manual transmission
I’d LOVE to see a 4×4/awd V8 hybrid setup, similar to the Corvette E-Ray. Something that destroys the TRX and Raptor R.
#1. Build a powerful yet gas efficient 4×4 hybrid. 5.3 liter is great..need 30+ mpg. Tow 11k+. It would sell!
#2. Better leather seats that don’t tear on sides. I think its some sort of vinyl on the sides now. My last 2 GM trucks ripped and cracked on driver seat
#3. Return to the column shift. Valuable space is needed in the middle. No need to be like F and Toy.
#4. Concentrate on LTZ and SLT..this is the mainstream that buyers want. It’s hard to find these models in 4×4..z71, x31
More customizable central console inserts would be quite interesting to have along with the option for column shifter to keep more usable efficient space. Seat options like more cushion would also be nice
Column shifter would be my #1. Consoles are for a cup of iced tea.
Keeping a straight gas V8 is #2.
Going back to the Umber (baseball glove leather color) full seats and dash is #3.
Hard to believe the T1x is already 6 model years old. It still looks fresh.
Eliminate DFM and AFM
Bring back adjustable pedals, new 5.7 L V8 and market it as a “350”, coil spring option for better ride, outfitter switches overhead like Ford, make a 2speed transfer case standard, all vehicle cameras would be accessible on iPhone app to monitor vehicle while away, lighted footwells!

Better front seats along the lines of ram interior and get rid of the cylinder shut off because it’s garbage and they know it’s garbage.
Bring the best and longest lasting truck on the road.
I think the biggest improvement I want to see it powertrains. I like the idea of an E-Ray like setup as an option, not for the sake of 0-60 only, but for economy and towing/hauling using the drive mode switch. Mate it to the 5.3 for a nice power adder and decent economy. Speaking of the 5.3, it and the 6.2 need an update or move to the new gen 6. Not because it’s weak, but because of weight gain. Also, manufacturers focus so much on range and economy for evs, why can’t they do the same for the ice with flat undertrays and other aero tricks.
#1: Keep the gas V8 options (esp the newly redesigned small block) but without AFM.
#2: Offer a true plug in hybrid option with perhaps a range of 50 miles on electric. I’d like to see this system with a V8 for towing.
#3: Increase the fuel tank capacity!
#4: Seat padding needs to be thicker.
#5: Include an actual PRINT owners manual. Nothing says FU more than a thin manual thrown in the glove box along with a card saying look it up online.
Front camera, better front end appearance, more power from the 5.3 V8.
A focus on safety – at this time no full-size pickup has been able to achieve the coveted IIHS recommended status.
Second would be a focus on quality. The GM pickups, and pickups in general, have been lagging on almost every quality stat out there. We know GM can produce top ranked products on the quality and durability level, it is time to bring that to the pickups and full size SUVs.
Lose the dated wood panels in some of the trim levels! An option for black stitching instead of only yellow in the interior of the ZR2 would be nice too.
Does anyone believe GM will listen to the customer? I had discussions with my dealer that I have purchased 9 GMC trucks from about the shifter change from column to the console. I asked why ruin the console space that I use daily for a console shifter, that by the way I despise; my dealer made the comment GM doesn’t listen to them either! 😳
Fix the lifter failure problems created by the stupid afm
Powertrain. The next gen small blocks, the Gen 6 better be a big improvement. The current engines are just somewhat massaged 14-19 stuff (new water pump, DFM instead of AFM). And unfortunately, spotty in reliability.
I hope the Turbomax stays, and I hope the LZ0 Duramax sticks around as well, but I’m sure those could change. GM and Ford will probably be the last two with a V8 offering though in the full size 1/2 ton market seeing Ram is all in on the I6 Hurricanes. I do recall it was rumored GM had an I6 in the works that was CSS platformed (same as the Turbomax and the 3.0 Duramax) but that got ditched.
Otherwise I hope they do a nice design on the exterior, and perhaps interior wise evolve the current refreshed one which I love the layout in mine. Very GM familiar to the old GMT-400, 800 and 900 in that typical GM dash layout they used for a long time, just updated with all the tech. Oh and new seats please.
Be able to build the truck the way we want it. It’s complete BS to have the power train and interior configured the way we want it, and get the point where you want to add a $1000 safety package to the truck and be told, no, you cannot do that without:
– Upgrading the power train that costs $1600
– Swapping the front bench seat to buckets with a center console that costs $620
– Buying a package that changes the cloth seats to leather, that also requires the purchase of yet another prerequisite package that adds a bunch of other unwanted, and unnecessary crap that costs $5000+
This makes the $1000 package cost $8000+ to add, is false advertising, fubars my power train choice and interior configuration that I would have sit in on a daily basis, and creates a price point I don’t want to pay.
With this silliness, why should I try and configure and purchase your truck? Are you going to make me buy a Tundra? A Tundra, I can add items without fubarring my previous choices. The package price points are the price points. I can add and get exactly what I want.
Put a turbo in the 5.3 V-8 engine
So it can suck? Last I saw the 5.3 is more efficient than the new turbo engines.
After my 11th Silverado…Lower the hood line per SAE downward vision recommendations so that cameras are not required to park (increasing price and complexity). Lit sunvisors on other than top trim levels and sunglass bin in roof console.
Make a standard cab with a short or long bed option. Not everybody wants or needs a 4 door truck that guzzles gas and weighs more and is harder to find parking space for. I had a 2006 Sierra reg cab/short bed “work truck” that i regret ever selling, and now you don’t even have the option to buy one!
Regular cab, short box, V8 engine 2 WD and 4X4 with trim levels and options above WT…….
WOW!!!!! Do I agree. Bring back ALL the options for a SWB Reg. cab again. The work truck trim is krap. If Joe working guy, wants too purchase a top of the line trim package, he has to buy what they tell him to buy. Bring back the days of carte-blanche ordering. Back when the Square bodys were hot, one could order ANYTHING that was availible on the Silverado model, in any other version…. Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, Cheyenne, or Silverado! One could build what one needed and or wanted. They were still built on the same lines. Also, while bringing back the SWB Reg. cab, why not bring back a solid front axle option? I’ve had 4 newer trucks with IFS, and I really miss my older trucks with a solid front axle. Ram and Ford, still have solid axles in some models. One last thing, No more hybrids and no more AFM krap!!!! Oh, I forgot…. GM NEVER listens to their customers!
I agree with Stepsideman. Bring back the SWB Reg. cab version. In ALL trim level. My husband has a 1500 4×4 Work Truck. UGLY!!!! He has alway previously, had SWB Reg, Cab 4×4. While many people here are asking for frivolous things, many are asking for the right things too. Like a sold axle front end. 454 Big blocks. No more AFM. These things would make for a far better truck and GM could compete better against its rivals. Ford has been number one for a reason. Rams interiors are far better than anyones. It’s just the terrible quality of Ford and Ram, that keeps us from even thinking about them. If GM really is reading this. I agree, bring back Carte-Blanche ordering. GM would sell more, and customers would be much more happy.
I agree with both of you. GM again supposedly, makes a limited amount of SWB Reg. cab, WT’s. Anyone seen one in the USA? Not me. And bring back Carte-Blanche ordering again. That would help make EVERYONE on this Forum happy. Having to buy all these super exspensive “Packages”is NUTS! Having a chance to order what one wants, needs, would be a very simple thing to do. As far as I know, GM trucks are built on only two lines. How hard can it be to build what a high paying customer really wants? Ford and Ram, are killing GM with their ability to build pretty much want the consumer needs, wants. GM, is again, asleep behind the wheel. OH yeh, I would LOVE to see a solid front axle option too. Ford has it and so does Ram! And, does anyone really think GM is watching this Forum?
1) Column shift. !!!!!!!
2) Bring back the sunglass bin into the overhead by the Homelink buttons
Bring back the adjustable pedals, add a sunglasses bin to the roofline and give us the option of a larger fuel tank.
Also, add paint protection to the front of the vehicle- my 6 month old High Country has rock chips in the front bumper, grille and hood.
Provide the option of having a split mid-gate, the same one being offered on the EV model, along with the Avalanche style side storage compartments.
Compare with Ford and Japanese trucks with a more powerful engine that can compete with them without the outrages msrp.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, not GMGoogleSpyRadio, plus go back to column shifter.
One of best ideas I’ve ever heard was a dealer who said give UAW the $43/hour they want but take away $5/hour for every recall. Truly an out-of-the-box idea that would turn GM’s quality around in a hurry.
Great idea, but I think the engineers, not factory workers, are responsible for design failures.
“One of best ideas I’ve ever heard was a dealer who said give UAW the $43/hour they want but take away $5/hour for every recall.”
Make extended cab, long bed, 4×4 available in all trim levels like you use to.
I sure will go along with the extended cab, long bed, 4X4. I’ve stuck with the 2500 HD model just to get those exact features. I’ve never understood why the long bed was taken off the 1500. It’s not even an option now.
Whatever happened to the Independent rear suspension? A Blower option for the 5.3.
Better seats! I have a 2022 High Country. My 2011 LTZ had better seats.
More colors, both interior and exterior
Power fold mirrors available all trims
Technology package available all trims
Sliding rear window delete, who needs it on a crew cab?
Privacy glass delete for the rear window
More 17″ and 18″ wheel options, not everyone wants 20″ and larger wheels.
OnStar delete
Column shifter
Body color mirrors an option, rather than requiring a trim choice. Same for door handles and bumpers
I take my Silverado on long trips all the time and would Love, love, love better and softer seats…PLEASE
Competitive brands are so much better.
Put the shifter back on the column. What a waste of console space!
1500 WT with 3.0 diesel engine option.
2-speed transfer case available with max tow package.
Need more Special Editions. Even if it’s just a wild color, some emblems and unique seat fabric. My 2015 Sunset Orange Texas Edition Silverado was my favorite out of the last 10 Silverado’s I’ve had. Strangers would just come up and want to talk about my truck, it was fun. Dodge/Ram has done a great job of mixing in limited production Special Editions. I know Chevy has the Redline, Rally ect. Those run for years until they are no longer unique. Each year or so do something different. Green, Yellow, Orange, matt finish something cool.
1. Regular cab option with enough storage behind the seat for a 5 gallon bucket when the seat is at full back. Toyota Tundra use to have this configuration when they offered a Regular Cab Tundra.
2. Extended cab with the old ‘suicide’ doors to get to the back/temporary seats. Toyota Tacoma had this thru 2023.
3. MANUAL transmission option, especially with 4 wheel drive.
4. LESS options or at least not bundled as much. The current system just drives up cost.
Increase the max payload on well equipped trucks (LT, LTZ and HC) to 2300-2500 lbs without losing the crew cab config. There is a big gap between the max payloads on 1500 and 2500 that should be filled. Ford trademarked “F-200” recently and the rumors are many, including the name for the new Ranger EV (ala Lightning) or a model between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton models with greater payload. Many RV trailer owners are forced to move to the 2500 due to trailer tongue weights that exceed 1/2 ton payload capacity.
X-tra Cab and a short box. Retain V-8 Gas engines. Would love to see a standard shift on the floor option.
More horses and toque for the 5.3L.
Improvements on Silverado, 4 wheel steering with a Duramax engine
I own a 2022 Silverado RST and I love everything about it! The power, the ride, the handling, the fuel efficiency, convenience features, and the overall look of the truck! My grandson loves “the roar” of the engine! 😆 I love the centralized controls, as it was a pain to turn the heated seat on for my passenger in my 04 SilveradoSS. I love the four cup holders on the console! Well designed for most all cups and I’m usually getting 3-4 coffees! Sorry, I got off topic! I’ve been scratching my head asking myself what could be better? The only things I can think of may be available as options or in other packages? Heated back seat (live in Fairbanks Alaska), sunglasses holder up by rear view mirror, maybe heated/cooled cup holders and center console? Imagine built-in cooler for those hot summer days! Power folding mirrors. Dual sunroofs or sky roof? Cabin air filter status. Overall, I’m quite impressed about how well the truck has been designed! I really couldn’t think of anything that I dislike!
There’s plenty of room for improvement in the whole truck . I wholeheartedly agree with with being able to choose what ever engine you want without having to get a package you don’t want, just because GM is forcing you to! Otherwise, interiors need to use better materials, more comfortable seats and better cup holders in the console. In the engine lineup, they need to be more efficient and stronger, more reliable, with improved oil change intervals. Whether they keep the 2.7 or not, doesn’t matter to me, because I don’t see the benefit of having it anyway.
no auto stop, start and no cylinder deactivation.
Bigger Brakes, I live in the mountains, the brakes suck.
I want the truck builders, GMC and Chey to build a truck that is comfortable. Not all drivers are interested in off-roading, etc. The trucks used to be comfortable, but not any more.
Add the much needed rear heat and air control for rear passengers.
I would love to see a 425 hp 5.3L V8 as an option and push the 6.2L upwards towards 460 hp and a 500lb ft torque figure! Full panoramic roof and better seats with improvements for comfort! An LT4 should be an option as well! the interior for the most part,I think is nice already but could use some tweaking
Continue refining the 4 cyl turbo. A larger gas tank would be nice.
Always look at improving corrosion protection on inside of panels.
Being able to change oil again would be nice . Have the ability to get slightly more aggressive tires without having to order heavy duty trucks.
Single Cab Silverado ZR2 with a bench seat.
Make the regular cab long bed 1500 in an LT or higher trim. Hate the low options and ugly front facia on the work truck and custom!!
Make the regular cab long bed 1500 in an LT or higher trim. Hate the low options and ugly front facia on the work truck and custom!! Make a truck that everyone wants not what GM wants you to buy!
Redesign the horribly ugly front fenders that don’t match the rest of the truck body style. Front grill is pretty ugly also. GMC pickups are much better styled.
Increase the forward sight line (lower the hood) and change the low-hanging rear shock design to something similar to what is used on the F-150 and Jeep.
1. A mild hybrid-electric setup (small battery, electric motors) paired with the 3.0L Duramax
2. Supercruise offered across all trims.
3. More confortable/bucket seats for the rear seats in crew cabs.
4. Apple CarPlay
Offer the 2.7L Turbo Max with the 10 speed transmission in the LTZ trim. I have one now with 23K miles in LT trim and love it.
– Column shifter…. all trims
– Passenger seat with the same options, range of motion as the driver seat… all trims
– More comfortable, higher quality front seats from the previous generation trucks
– 18″ wheels available for all trims (making 20″ or 22″ available for those that want them is fine, forcing them on everyone that wants a higher trim level is bologna)
Whatever happened to the idea of GM building a regular cab shortbed with a 6.2? They built the show trucks, then dropped the concept. Not everyone wants off-road.
Maybe paint the wheel openings … use fiberglass instead of black plastic.. to it looks cheap.. Is there a reason you can’t get LEATHER in ALL models if you want from the factory instead of having to put after market in ?? Nicer wheels for an option…. The ones now pretty much the same… some that have chrome.. I am old school and not a fan of the black you put on everything… and white letter tires as we’ll.. like dodge does on some of there models….Can you make them a little shorter in LENGHT?? I had to buy a Nissan to fit in my garage.. that sucks I like GM and always have but I don’t like to keep my vehicles out.. and most home builders make the garages so small that it is tough finding a truck to fit.. more like a 18” wheel instead of the larger tires as we’ll…..I want to buy GM again
Quadrasteer!
YES! Thank you!!!
Larger fuel ⛽️ tank – 30 US Gallons
Column shift — this is not an SUV or an F150
Return the sunglass holder above the driver. *** Ca’mon man where am I going to store my aviators? ***
🚒
..
Power adjustable pedals
Thicker seats
Sunglass holder in overhead console
Column Shifter
Get rid of the DOD lifters and the Auto Stop and Start feature
Better Paint Quality
Power folding mirrors on all trims
A better quality truck in general
Wow! Tons of feedback so far! Like many others would love to see a Hybrid setup. The new Ramcharger is a game changer IMO, I don’t think we’ll get anywhere close to a practical full BEV truck in the near future, so Rams idea is a great start.
I hope the new gen V8’s bring power and efficiency. It’s going to be tough to compete with the boosted 6’s from their rivals though. I’d like to see less of this snub nose look outside. Also, a option for coil rear won’t hurt.
Body colored trim (bumpers, etc.) on trim levels higher than the RST. Black out on the HC doesn’t count.
A lot of good suggestions from these people
I have a 2022.5 and personally find the cup holders being front to back to be extremely annoying when I have anyone besides my wife with me in the truck. These trucks are plenty wide enough to have them left to right.
Well… if GM put the shifter on the column where it should always be, there would be plenty of space for side-by-side cup holders either the bench or the console between the buckets, which ever you prefer.
Offer a larger capacity fuel tank!! Especially with the Duramax. And for God’s sake give me a true flat rear load floor. I bought a Ram simply for these reasons.
Offer a V8 in the Custom.
I sure hope GM is smart enough to read and actually do as their customers ask! I know most of my list has been mentioned but i didnt see this first one..
Add a display showing what gear the truck is in, especially for people who use their trucks to tow.
Make the seat bottoms a little softer for long trips
Get rid of the POS AFM!
Add a full retractable rear window like Toyota and Nissan had a few years ago.
Get rid of the push button tailgate release, Ford and Dodges electronic latches look much better!
Change over to Coil Spring rear suspension / Offer Independent Rear as an option.
The powertrain must be bulletproof. People will need to finance them 15 years to afford them.
I’m in the technology business but I think we’ve gone overboard. Allow the sat phone aka on star to be easily removed. Eliminate the dod/afr system. Bring back an updated version of the old 250 straight 6 and cancel that embarrassing 4 banger. Eliminate belt driven or computer controlled oil pumps and overhead cams. I was about to buy a 1500 with the diesel until I saw how it was built. Bring back the 454 for all models.
Currently I own a 2019 Silverado LTZ Texas Edition. I ordered it in Texas because I couldn’t order it in Michigan! I love the truck and I would hope they don’t change too much! I would like a lot of chrome like mine has and would like it to drive itself because I’m 81 now and you never know how much longer I’ll be able to drive! Please make it good to look at! Thanks!
1. Reg. cab with a LT trim.
2. Larger Reg. cab for tools or shopping bags.
3. De-Ugly steel and 17” Alum. rims.
4. 5.7/390 HP. no cyl. shutoff engine.
5. Better seats for LT and LTZ trims.
6. Electronic dual zone controls for rear seats.
Lower the towing mirrors.
Can’t tell you how many times i’ve almost pulled out in front of someone.
I’m 5ft 8in. and the power seat is all the way up.
GMC Sierra 4×4 Regular Cab short box 6.2/10speed Denali. Recaro seats! That means dumping Lear. Offer the Camero D shaped steering wheel with extra padding. This is my version of the Cyclone! ICE forever!
I vote for independent rear suspension along with a better front suspension shock and dampening design. I want a truck that rides as smooth has a Lexus, but can still haul a load when needed. Make the truck interior more quiet, maybe thicker glass or more sound insulation.
Lower Them ! Where’s it written that a 2 wheel drive has to be as high off the ground as a 4 wheel drive. A friend has a 1972 Chevy Cheyenne model, you can easily put things in the cargo box from any point around it. Have you wondered why the Ford Maverick sells so good … it’s easy to get things out of the cargo box. Get’em back close to the ground again like a 72 C10 was … if anyone wants to be higher off the ground … buy a lift kit … and get off the 4-door lunacy.
Offer a 2wd, manual-transmission, regular-cab model with rubber floors and manual-crank windows for a decent price. My 2010 GMC Canyon is getting pretty rusty. I would love a similarly equipped new Silverado with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, in that gorgeous blue shown in the article.
If you don’t like it, then go buy something else. This will increase the availability for those of us who do like it. Now your problem is solved and you don’t have to complain anymore. Now get down to your local Ford dealer or whoever makes a vehicle that tickles your fancy. Your welcome
They asked for opinions and opened up for discussion those opinions/wishes, that is the subject of this column. These are just people talking about a common subject, if you think things are perfect then you have no problem. Lucky you.
Get rid of afm/dfm keep the column shift
I’m 30 years old and can’t offered a new truck. So a dropped price is really the main thing a can think of. If I can’t get a long box in the Colorado then I’d like a cheaper full size truck with a V8 or V6 at least.
That being said, I don’t think I’ll ever buy a truck brand new. It just doesn’t make sense anymore.
Add more Horsepower across the complete line up. It’s time to get back to the Chevy company that I grew up with the Truck line up should start from 480 to 750 Horsepower.
Without question fix gas engine lifter issues and transmission problems. Eliminate console shifter, use push buttons if the column shifter is too old fashioned. Increase fuel tank size, or option a larger one. A HD tow pkg makes no sense with a 22 or 26 gallon tank. Option a 2spd transfer case with all trims and packages. Improve seat comfort and support. More interior and exterior color choices. Today the higher the trim level, the fewer the paint options. All tow packages must include tow mirrors.
Hayman
Bring back a standard transmission! When you are hauling a heavy load you can control your rpm’s better and down shifting on hills results in less brake wear and more stability. Standard transmissions provide better gas mileage, sound better when going through the gears, are cheaper to maintain and are generally less expensive than automatics. No transmission cooler is needed and they provide a lot more driver interaction. Most importantly they are more fun to drive!
Eliminate the useless stop/start! Nothing but a nerve wracking annoyance!
bring back seat option like on 2002 GMC Sierra SLT thick comfortable seats and rear bench seat that can lay down flat for my dogs.
Drop the total price 25% and go back to 0% finance for 72 months . I’ll buy one today.
Agreed, the selling prices are too high. Sooner or later a manufacturer like Mahindra of India is going to introduce a pickup, currently Mahindra has one that retails for about $17K in US dollars.
#1 Better forward visibility via lower hood line.
#2 Softer, more comfortable seats. Mine are hard as a board!
#3 More options (not packages) offered across ALL trim levels
#4 No AFM, DFM, Auto Stop/Start EVER AGAIN!
#5 Two tone paint options
#6 More interior color choices that are actual colors! Blue, Red even Tan or Wheat color!
And the big one!
#7 Do a retro theme truck! Different grille, different taillights, actual real trim (mouldings!)
Can help you with the auto start/stop. Shut down the engine, open the hood, proceed to 12 volt battery. Now look closer at the “negative” terminal … you see a plugged in wire there about 3/8″ in diameter. Unplug the wire there on the negative terminal. You’ve just shut down auto start/stop. That wire’s job was to tell the alternator when the battery needed more charging … unplugging the wire let’s the battery charge as it was designed to be, not when auto-start/stop wanted it to be. Only side affect … the auto start/stop light stays on in the dashboard. No charge for this.
While I can appreciate the suggested mechanical improvements previously mentioned, GM trucks are WOEFULLY lacking in the audio department. All trim levels beyond Base should have an enhanced audio system available as an option. This should be something different than Bose, or at least refine/enhance the Bose system across the board. I couldn’t get Bose in my 2023 LT (I didn’t want the leather furnished with the LTZ), but even those that do have Bose are not impressed it seems. The competition has GM handily beat in this category.
1) Improve reliability
2) 10 speed across the board. If Ford can do it GM should also
3) Regular cab with LT trim
4) V8 option for base regular cab short bed
5) Better looking wheels and less all black and more two tone black/silver machine faced instead opions
6) Improve front seat bottoms and make a little wider
7) All new improved V8 engines and an improved 5.3 that can at least match Ford’s 5.0 Coyote for poer and mileage without AFM or DFM
8) Std rear seat armrest LT on up
9) A true flat rear load floor
10) Weight reduction, improved aerodynamics and thus better MPG numbers
Yes, regular cab LT trim!!!
I only drive on the street. I would like an option for the street, there’s a lot of off road options.
A $10-$30,000 price reduction depending on model.
These are some, but not limited to:
1- Add a power outlet system like that on the Ford F 150 Limited – at least 8.0 kW that can power generators, construction equipment on some trims. Make the 8.0 kW system optional on higher trims and have a 5.0 kW as standard on the base WT (and the GMC Sierra Pro equivalent)
2-Add more power to both the 5.3 and 6.2 V8 engines
3-Add a performance exhaust to the V8 engines on the Trail Boss trims (Both Custom and LT), being optional on those two trims and standard on the ZR2 (should be standard on the GMC AT4 & AT4X)
4-Add an optional onboard air compressor for off-roading trims (Trail Boss LT & Custom, and on GMC AT4 & AT4X ) and standard on the ZR2, as well as new off roading technology such as cameras etc).
5-Add a standard winch on the ZR2 Bison (and optional on the ZR2, same being the case with the AT4X).
6- Add a budget off road package below the Trail Boss (eg: Z71 extreme)
7- Add Regular Cab Short Bed Trim levels in WT (which should have the 5.3 V8 as an option on the WT RCSB), LT (5.3 V8 only) and Custom Trail Boss (5.3 V8 only) at the very least
8- Offer a factory supercharged package like Ford F 150 has on both the 5.3 & 6.2 V8s, as well as CAI & cat back exhausts
9- Bring a newer innovative tailgate
Last point for the next gen Silverado (forgot to mention):
Add a calculator for the payload similar to what Ford has on the F 150 and F 250.
I take my Silverado on long trips all the time and would Love, love, love better and softer seats…PLEASE
Competitive brands are so much better.
Amen brother!!! Ram seats are sooooo much better.
Get rid of DFM. I’d rather get less fuel economy than cylinders dropping all the time. And how about a transmission dip stick? The only way to check transmission fluid level is absolutely torturous and makes no logic sense. Make the the option of front and rear e lockers available for any trim level. Make the DSSV shocks also available optional for any trim level. And how about some more power for the awesome 6.2l?
They will NOT drop DFM/Auto Start Stop due to EPA regulations or they will face heavy fines.
Better reception radio to stop people from having to get satellite radio. Old radios got great reception not so much the last 5 yrs. Blind spot warning on all trim levels. Stop piece mealing the safety packages. Extra charge for everything.
Getting your dealers under control. You Should not feel like you are going to be ripped off every time you go Into a dealership. Next the quality of your vehicles has to improve.
Age old problem. Saturn had resolved with fixed pricing no haggle. Most dealers don’t get it. Depending where you live, use Carpro.com. He only recommends dealers that are vetted and are not shysters.
I’ve owned 11new Rams since 2014 and now have a 22 High Country Duramax. There are pluses and minus(s) to both. Here are my top 5 asks. 1. Better Carplay integration 2. A radio that does not black out multiple times after startup as the computer tries to catch up. 3. Autostop function that remembers being turned off 4. More comfortable seats…especially in the rear. (rear seats are awful). 5. An infotainment system that does not pester me all the time to buy something or download my contacts.. I have lots of thoughts both plus and minus regarding the two truck lines, I’m not so familiar with Ford. Ford let me down so many times in my early years I just cannot go down that path, although their hybrid powertrain is super intriguing.
550 hp to beat new Dodge Hurricane. Adjustable suspension and exhaust like Raptor. 700 hp version to compete with Raptor R. More comfortable seats!
Eliminate DFM and stop using known defective lifters.
Get rid of Mary Barra
Change the angle of the A pillar there is a problem with pedestrians going into crosswalks almost hit one because of blind spots. I don’t have this problem with my 1980 GMC 3/4t. Make the dash not so deep makes cleaning the window a lot easier. Not sure if this would increase the distance between your legs and the dash and instrument panel. I own a 1996 GMC 3/4t truck,2002 Tahoe,a2016 Tahoe and they all have the same problem with the A-pillar and being to close to the dash if you are on the shorter size you have to get to close to the dash to reach the pedals all is fine if you are 6 feet tall or more.
Make the 2.7 available with a plug in hybrid set up. Offer said hybrid and any electric options as RWD as well, not forced into 4×4.
Regular cab long bed in more trims than just WT would be nice too.
1. The interior material quality is below Ram and Ford. The 22.5 update was very needed, but it’s still a third-place interior. It’s mearly “good enough”.
2. Column shifter.
3. New v8 and only one v8 so there is no more of the lethargic v8 unless you spent mucho bucks. it needs to offer at least 400hp. Lets see the return of the 5.7 as I hear a new most likely DOHC v8 is coming. I hear the i6 turbo was cancelled. If true, that was a mistake.
4. Improved ride quality. Everyone knows the Rams ride better at the expense of hauling. Fords ride a lot better too, although the GM trucks handle and steer better. If this means coil rear or IRS, IDK. Ford has neither and they have a better ride.
5. Do something unexpected. Put your v8 (or good v8, if you go the two route) in a regular cab short box. Make it sporty with nice suspension, like the multimatics but keep the price reasonable by not going crazy like a Raptor or TRX. 50k. You don’t have a Camaro anymore, this can fill the gap. Dare I say a 6 speed manual option? Get back in the headlines.
Ram is now offering 540hp from a 6 cylinder. This is the new benchmark. More power for Silverado and c8 corvette, 540 minimum.
Redesign the front end to get visibility up front. I don’t like my pickup to have worse visibility than my semi trucks.
A front end comparable to the Traverse is an example.
update the taillights please and get a better grey paint color
Bring back the silver, not a fan of gray!
It has been Decades since your seats on the Silverado were halfway comfortable. Make those seats more comfortable than the F150’s as we all drive alot. Make the 2025/2026 seats so comfy in any trim level.
Please, stop using plywood in your rear seats as padding..Other brands have cushy rear seats..its about time Chevy that you made all your seats comfortable including the REAR..
I’m not a gearhead and don’t get into the whole mechanical side; however, here is what I would like to see after buying a 2023 Chevy Crew Cab.
–There’s a close up mirror within the driver side mirror. Add one to the passenger side mirror. It may have to be a little bigger.
–Sunglass bin
–The all window down button needs to have a reversing feature of all windows up. Maybe a safety concern.
–The back up camera needs a beeping sound that can be toggled on and off to cover those times when the camera lens is dirty or just when you need something to remind you that you’re backing up.
–Adjustable pedals.
–The back seat goes up. On the bottom, place some Velcro straps so that you can store an umbrella or snow scraper underneath and out of the way.
–The auto shut off feature at a stop needs to have a toggle on and off that is remembered. It would be nice to toggle it either way and have the setting remembered when the car is re-started. Personally, I don’t like the feature and toggle it off every time I start the vehicle. I have heard many drivers indicate that they toggle this off immediately. I find the when the truck turns off and re-starts it’s not a smooth action and feels like it’s going to stall out. It’s jerky.
–If AFM is kicking from V8 to V4 during highway driving, then bring it back. Dealership indicated GM no longer has this feature and instead switched to the auto shut off feature. Had it on my Charger and works great.
–Lighted sun visors. Come on…….no lights?
