We Render The Upcoming Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss

The fourth-generation Chevy Silverado HD received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year, with General Motors pulling the sheets on the updated heavy-duty pickup truck range in September 2022. Notably, the forthcoming 2025 Chevy Silverado HD is poised to introduce a new Silverado HD Trail Boss model, providing a fresh off-road option that slots between the Z71 package and ZR2 trim in terms of off-road capability. Now, GM Authority is providing a look at the upcoming Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss, complete with refreshed styling, thanks to the following exclusive renderings.

This isn’t the first time GM Authority has covered the Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss. Back in April of 2021, GM Authority exclusively reported that such a model was under consideration, and in July of that year, we published a series of renderings showing what such a model could look like.

Now, with the release of the refreshed Chevy Silverado HD and its associated styling changes, we’re once again rendering the Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss, this time with the latest design. Notably, we included two separate front-end treatments, one of which is based on lower end trims like WT, Custom, and LT, while the other follows suit with trims higher in the trim level cadence, including LT Edition models, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

As one might expect from a Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss model, our renderings include all the usual upgrades and equipment for off-roading, including a factory lift, meaty 35-inch tires, red tow hooks, and Trail Boss badges on the bedsides.

Engine options will include the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, as well as the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both powerplants will mate to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission. The standard 4WD system will include a rear locker, but no front locker – much like the Silverado HD ZR2, and for the same reasons.

And like the Silverado HD ZR2, we expect the Silverado HD Trail Boss to be available exclusively in the 2500 HD (three quarter ton) variant, and only in the Crew Cab, Standard Bed configuration.

  1. I was wondering if the 2024 GMC 3500 AT4X AEV crew cab is going to come in any shade of Blue.

  2. Give it the 1.5″ lift from the ZR2. Base it on the LT trim level (cloth seats, LED headlights and Adaptive cruise as options) and let people get a more entry level version or mid level version. Also some descent shocks and a 34″ tire (which would leave room for a 35″ tire later with the same lift as the ZR2). Keep it priced around 6k below the heavily optioned ZR2 and it should do well. I imagine it will follow a similar formula to the Silverado and priced similar as well. Looking forward to this as all the box checker bells and whistles of the ZR2 don’t tickle me much.
