GM has released a recall in Canada for certain units of the Cadillac XT4, Chevy Blazer, Chevy Malibu, Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon due to an issue with the automatic headlamps.
The problem: affected vehicles equipped with automatic headlights may have a condition where the headlamps don’t illuminate soon enough when it becomes dark outside. Notably, Canadian regulations require automatic headlights to turn on when the ambient light level drops below 1000 lux.
The hazards: if the headlamps were to illuminate too late, visibility could be reduced, which could lead to an increased risk of a crash or serious injury.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect affected vehicles and update the body control module (BCM) software, as needed.
Affected components: automatic headlights.
Affected vehicles:
- 2021 Cadillac XT4
- 2024 Cadillac XT4
- 2021 Chevy Blazer
- 2021 Chevy Malibu
- 2023 Chevy Colorado
- 2023 GMC Canyon
Number of affected vehicles: General Motors stated that there are 7,738 vehicles affected by this recall.
Owners should: General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles by mail and instruct them to make an appointment with their local GM dealer. Comments
I am in the U.S. and have a 2019 Cadillac XT4, and the headlights rarely come on automatically before I have to manually turn the switch because of low light conditions outside. I like the XT4 a lot, but the reluctant light sensor is one area that should be fixed in the U.S. as well as Canada.
When is this supposed to get fixed ?
