In addition to leaking images of the regular all-new Traverse HEV in China last week, the Asian country’s authorities also leaked the first details of the upcoming and yet-unannounced 2024 Chevy Traverse Activ.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released SAIC-GM’s official future product statement for the upcoming 2024 Chevy Traverse Activ, a new off-road-focused version of Chevrolet’s full-size crossover designed for the Chinese market. Once again, the institution got ahead of the joint venture by revealing the 2024 Traverse Activ before it was officially announced.
Notably, the upcoming 2024 Chevy Traverse Activ is the off-road variant of the third-generation Chinese-made crossover, and the equivalent to the Z71 trim level of the North American model. In fact, both versions share exactly the same body design, with both styling and functional elements introduced by the Traverse Z71, giving it a more aggressive appearance and improve its off-road abilities.
The exterior appearance differences between the upcoming 2024 Chevy Traverse Activ for China and the American-made Traverse Z71 are some finishing details – such as larger rearview mirrors, LED taillights with clear lenses and Activ emblems instead of Z71 badges on both the grille and the liftgate. The rest remains the same, including the raised suspension scheme and 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
Like the regular version, the biggest change to the upcoming 2024 Chevy Traverse Activ over its American counterpart is in the powertrain. As standard, the all-new Traverse that will be offered in the Chinese market will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion system composed of a turbocharged 2.0L gasoline engine with 150 kW or 201 horsepower and an electric motor. For its part, the Activ variant adds AWD as standard equipment.
The upcoming 2024 Chevy Traverse Activ is expected to debut soon and be introduced alongside the regular variant of the crossover for the first time in the Chinese market early next year, as the largest utility vehicle ever made by SAIC-GM. As such, the Traverse will expand Chevrolet‘s local range of crossovers and will be positioned above the three-row Chevy Blazer exclusive to the Asian country.

China gets a Hybrid?????????? Why is there not one in the U.S. I will probably have to buy a Toyota after 44 year being a Chevy Girl. This is heartbreaking to see all of these ev batteries that are made with slave labor. Doesn’t anyone care??
“Images Leaked” Didn’t Chevy debut the 2024 Traverse like 4 months ago?
Oh-oh-oh, this is the Activ, so different rims, knobby tires and red tow hooks?
Western beast made in the East. The little 3!
Agreed we should get the hybrid here as long as it’s not priced $10,000 above a regular ICE traverse. While the RAV4 and highlander hybrids are a good idea $50,000 for a RAV4 and even more for the Highlander is insane. That’s probably why GM won’t bring a hybrid here it would cost to much in America who wants a traverse for Tahoe money or close to it… If the government wants people to drive more fuel efficient vehicles they must be made cheaper.
What fuel efficient expensive vehicles are out there? Expensive vehicles aren’t fuel efficient because if you’re willing to buy an expensive vehicle manufacturers figure you can afford gas. They could put underpowered fuel efficient engines in them but what American who can afford a Tahoe or Suburban wants anything but a hefty gas-powered V8 or turbodiesel? Not to mention, engine, brake, and other automotive tech was reportedly out there to get great economy but the Middle East reportedly bought up all those patents to keep us buying their gas. If anyone cared we’d just infringe on the patents, like China does, or buy them back.
I have a feeling that this is going to be a similar design for the refreshed 2025 Suburban…. Personally I don’t like it…. Ron
Ron I don’t trust this “leaked in China” image stuff … First off the back end looks like the previous leaked in China image of the 2025 Chevy Equinox! Second we won’t know what it really looks like until GM wants us to. As for the more rugged look I like it I always thought the Traverse looked to soft or like a four door minivan. And GMC gets a better looking Acadia.
This vehicle was already introduced to the American Public this past Summer, it’s now set for preview in China
Does GM care more about their Chinese customers than American ?
Phil GM just like every other MODERN CORPORATION cares about how much and where they make money… They don’t care about one county or another it’s sad but that’s how it is.
The panel alignment on the tailgate of the white one is horrendous, but other than that the new Traverse looks pretty good. GM will have no trouble selling these.
That thing is butt-ugly.
Current version is way better.
BIG step backwards.
