The Last Sixth-Gen Chevy Camaro Convertible Has Been Built

The sixth-generation Chevy Camaro is not long for this world, with 2024 marking the sixth-gen’s final model year. As such, the very last examples of the sixth-gen Chevy Camaro are rolling out now from the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan. That includes the final sixth-gen Chevy Camaro Convertible, per a recent post to social media and previous GM Authority coverage.

An image from social media regarding the final sixth-gen Chevy Camaro Convertible.

An image from what appears to be the interior of the GM Lansing Grand River plant was recently posted online showing a printed piece of paper with the words “Last LGR Built Camaro Convertible – Nice Job LGR Body Shop Team!” The paper includes the Chevy Camaro logo and a picture of a drop-top sixth-gen Camaro painted in what appears to be Vivid Orange Metallic paint with Black Metallic Rally stripes, with 20-inch 5-spoke Carbon Flash-painted aluminum wheels in the corners. The printed paper is taped to a bare metal frame.

GM Authority exclusively reported in September that production of the 2024 Chevy Camaro Convertible would end on November 22nd, 2023.

The new image follows another social media post made early last week stating that the last LT4 engine for the sixth-gen Chevy Camaro ZL1 had been built. The supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine is produced at the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and is rated at 650 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 650 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm when equipped by the sixth-gen Chevy Camaro ZL1. The LT4 is also equipped by the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and Cadillac Escalade-V.

Per a GM Authority exclusive, the production run for the 2024 Chevy Camaro will be shorter than a normal production run, with fewer overall units planned. In addition, several options and packages are no longer offered for the 2024 model year, including the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine, a number of exterior paint options, the lowered suspension and sway bar options, wheel options, and the base-level 1LS trim.

GM Authority has also learned that the last 2024 Camaro Coupe will be produced on December 7th, 2023.

The Chevy Camaro nameplate is expected to be revived sometime in the future as an EV.

  3. The EV push is dying. Most people who wanted them got them. Yes Tesla sales more but they really are most returning customers sales are leveling off. EV’s will be here but not as big as the US Government or Car Manufactures are saying. Its going to take one change in the US Administration and things will change again. If a true solid state comes out I could see a change, but Toyota says they may only be able to product 10k cars a year in 2030 with the solid state batteries, so that’s not even going to make a dent either in EV consumption.

My hope is they all manufactures see that EV is not going to be the end to solve anything the earth does. We will never control the environment or climate.

  6. I hate thinking that I’ve seen the last gas fueled Camaro to be built, I have been a loyal GM consumer for 50+ years. Reality check, electric cars are not the answer, when you only have a very small portion of the world (US) that is taking any steps to really control the pollution problems, what about, China, Russia, Afica, and a few others they do nothing to help the situation. I believe that all of the climate problems are cyclical, and have happened in the past, and will happen again. We cannot save the world….

  8. It seems ironic and sad that the last Camaro is going to be built on December 7th, the day Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, “a date that will live in infamy”.

  13. I’ve been a loyal GM customer my whole adult life. Started driving in 1990 with my mothers 1986 Grand Prix 2+2 which I kept until 2002. I bought a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire 1SB coupe, then a 2002 Pontiac Firebird V6, then a 2007 Pontiac G5 GT, then a 2008 Pontiac G6 GXP coupe which I still have and lastly a 2021 Chevy Camaro 2LT coupe V6 which I also still have, all of those brand new and custom ordered except the Sunfire and G6 I found on lot. I ordered a 2024 Chevy Camaro 2SS on August 24 before the September 7 deadline. The dealer told me then they had a Camaro allocation at that time. Then around October 19 I call to check on the status and the dealer tells me my order still hasn’t been picked up. But I’m next in line. Of course I know the orders have closed but they insist they haven’t. Finally after almost 3 weeks they finally admit that orders closed and they returned my deposit. They claim that my order wasn’t picked up because I wanted a manual transmission. I don’t know if that’s the truth or someone else came and said they would pay more and they gave them my ordered car. I found a Dodge Challenger on a lot this week that was almost a perfect match for my options. Goodbye GM you lost a loyal customer of over 30 years.

    1. I am doing the same , good bye GM. I ordered a 2023 Camaro 2ss in Nov.2022 and never got it . So when got the news from the dealership that they could order a 2024 2ss in June 2023 we put the order in and we still have no word on our order and we ordered with the automatic trans so the bull$hit about the stick shift is crap . My dealership got a Panther with a v6 automatic and they didn’t order it . So yes GOOD BYE GM.

  14. Charles, I don’t think the $50K Camaro was a joke or that it killed the youthful buyer. Camaro, like the Mustang, remained faithful to their heritage by offering affordable models in the lineup. You can still buy a beautiful, sporty car in the lower end of the range.

I did opt for the $50K Camaro but not because it was the only Camaro offering there was.
