Should The Chevy Colorado Offer More Interior Colors?

The Chevy Colorado was completely overhauled for the 2023 model year, with the Bow Tie brand introducing a brand-new third generation complete with new styling, a new interior, a new powertrain, and an updated model line. Critically, the Chevy Colorado is a bit sparse when it comes to interior color options. The question is – should it be?

The interior of the third-generation Chevy Colorado.

It’s a question that’s definitely worth a closer look. As pointed out by GM Authority reader Bill in a recent message, Chevy’s sports cars, including the Chevy Corvette C8 and Chevy Camaro, offer several interior colors (alternately known as “colorways”), while Chevy’s pickup models offer relatively few. This is especially the case for the Chevy Colorado, which actually only offers three interior colorways, specifically:

  • Jet Black (available for WT, Trail Boss and LT trim levels)
  • Jet Black/Adrenaline Red (available for Z71)
  • Jet Black/Artemis (available for ZR2)

Which begs the question – should the third-generation Chevy Colorado offer a wider selection of interior colorways?

A red colorway might be one good option, as might a brown hue similar to the Jet Black / Maple Sugar interior colorway that’s offered for the ICE-powered Chevy Blazer, Chevy Traverse, Chevy Suburban, and Chevy Tahoe.

A gray interior theme could be another solid option, such as the Gideon / Very Dark Atmosphere colorway that’s available for the Chevy Silverado 1500, Chevy Suburban, and Chevy Tahoe. Yet another interesting option might be Jet Black with Nightshift Blue accenting, which is available for the Chevy Silverado 1500 and ICE-powered Chevy Blazer.

As a reminder, the current 2024 Chevy Colorado introduces the second model year for the midsize pickup’s third generation, offering two engine options, namely the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine and turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. The updated 31XX-2 platform provides the underpinnings, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  1. The lack of interior colors is pathetic on the vast majority of all vehicles currently being offered for sale.

    1. They are having enough trouble building the ones they offer now.

And yes they definitely need more options

  3. This is just one in a long line of issues I have with the new Colorado and Canyon. The lack of body styles and bed sizes are a couple of examples. The wheel choices need improvement. The WT needs optional silver alloy wheel option like the Ranger XL and the LT needs to have items like cruise control and telescoping wheel as standard fare. There also needs to be a bit more focus on luxury and less on blackened off road appearances with at least a Premier or High Country trim for a bit less coin than the Canyon Denali. They also made a mistake killing off the diesel especially considering the disappointing mileage numbers from the noisier 2.7 4 banger. Not offering a hybrid or V6 is another misstep. Eliminating choices and options will take away sales so this just seems to be a cut off nose despite your face scenario.

    1. The sales kind of sucked and they scaled it back overall with the refresh. Yeah, I know that’s exactly the wrong thing to do, but well that’s how they operate.
Once they ditched the option of a smaller cab and bigger bed, I quit looking at them, especially considering how close in the price they are to the full size work trucks.
They aren’t making one for me, and that’s fine. But when you reduce the options enough you’ll eventually find that you aren’t making one for anybody.

    2. I waited a long time for this truck. To me the interior color choices are lacking for sure. Even adding just two more could help. I am very disappointed with no hybrid. Very disappointed with exterior colors and no bright red. I am a long time Chevrolet owner, but I may be looking at Tacoma if their hybrid has good fuel economy. GM is putting their eggs all into the electric only basket. They should be offering hybrids to folks. Happy Holidays all.

    3. I would be happy with any color as long as the roof does not buckle when you take it into a car wash. That is frustrating.

  4. Definitely need more interior options. Black is classic but otherwise there is nothing very appealing. I drive an 18 Colorado ZR2 and really dislike the new gray interior with yellow stitching on the new ZR2s. Gray is very “meh” to me and yellow is a more controversial color than red. I would prefer the z71s Black interior with red stitching at the very least on ZR2, but there is not option. I nice brown would also make the interior feel a little more premium.

  5. I would be willing to pay a small amount for additional upgrade interior color choices. (Not GMC Canyon pricing though!)

Tans, browns, and saddles are appealing to me.

  6. Yeah, but they would probably built them all with black. And since placing an order seems to be a real burden for GM, what’s the point of placing an order when they won’t deliver it until after you are dead? After being in the car business for over 100 years, you would think they could get their freaking act together. Pathetic.

  8. Too many interiors in a Corvette. Too few options everywhere else…

  9. People that live more in the southern areas don’t want dark interior because of the heat it heats up too in the sun! Most people that don’t
have full length pants requirements wear shorts and those who don’t have a towel handy get slight burning on the bottom of their legs! And some like me just don’t want dark colored seats. Tomg

  10. Absolutely more interior colors should be offered. They need some browns and different stiching color options. Yellow stitching for ZR2 isn’t appealing in my view. While speaking of colors,a few more exterior color alternatives would be nice. I’m extremely tired of having white, black and three shades of gray rammed down our throat No shades of green? How about that beautiful Cactii green the Vette has on a Colorado and Canyon. That would be a huge seller in my opinion

  11. My next truck purchase weighs heavily on being able to have ANY color, other than Black or Grey. The Chevy Blazer in Maple sugar is the ultimate winner. Add this to the Colorado interior colors and I will be at the dealership with my stack of cash waiting!

  12. Say what all you guys will. But do any of you remember the ’70’s. That’s when all vehicles, were able to be purchased with the most UGLY color combos, one could imagine. Green exterior, green interior. Red exterior, red interior. ETC. It was enough to make you puke. Is that what you want to return too. A basic all black interior, is just plain elagant. Nothing looks classier than a black interior. No matter WHAT the exterior color is. K.I.S.S.

    1. Yes, that’s EXACTLY what I want a return to. How is red on red or green on green an ugly combo? Black is boring, too dark, and absorbs too much heat.

  13. I will not own a Black Interior. Just like I do not like black exterior. Current Silverado has a Dark Ash interior.
Black exterior is nice looking BUT a pain to keep clean. Black interior also shows all dirt and grime.
I have owned Grey, Tan, Ash, but never again Black.
Interior colors are the reason I don’t own a new vehicle.

  14. 100% yes! Red. Tans, Browns, Saddle. Love the Sugar Maple on Tahoe! A blue shade. Garnet. A lot of GM vehicles would be more desirable to me with the option to have a color for the interior, not black or “dark”.
    The Colorado definitely.
A tan or red interior would really make a ZR2 sportier looking.

  15. I totally agree that the lack of different color Leather interiors on a high end truck is a lack of customer focus on GM’s Marketing team. I understand there are part issues and maybe material issues where only one color was possible. But lets Listen to the customer. The 24’s should have multiple leather or cloth interior selections. I would like to see a Tan interior which would go perfect with the Nitro yellow or even a dark brown leather interior choice in a Trail Boss or ZR2. I am still waiting for my 23, ZR2. I am told it is built, holding my breath. In addition, exterior colors need to be refreshed and unique.

  16. I fondly remember different color interiors. Blue, green, red, I dislike black. Would buy now if more interior color options.

  17. Adding more interior colors would sway my decision away from the new Ranger that offers a very nice Tan interior that really complements most of their exterior colors. GM please make this happen! Thanks for the article and suggestions.

  18. Interior colors , and exterior colors are not so good. I BOUGHT THE AT$ COLORADO IN THE DESERT SAND, IT HAS THE TAN TRIM (PIPING & PADED DASH). I LIKE IT…BUT SURE DON’T LIKE ANY OTHER COLOR OPTION. NOBODY WANTED THE 4 CYLINDER TURBO. NOBODY WANTED THE ELECTRONIC STUFF THAT RUNS BATTERIES DEAD AND IS STILL OPERATING MOVING PARTS LONG AFTER THE VEHICE IS PARKED. I COULD NOT FIND A FORD TO BUY, AND I’M BUYING AMERICAN, SO, I HOPE GM BACKS THIS VEHICLE, THE DEALERS ARE NOT SO GOOD WITH AFTER THE SALE MECHANICAL OR OPERATIONAL ISSUES. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DEALERS THAT MAKES THEM SO UNCARING. PS, THE ON STAR FOLKS DON’T SPEAK CLEARLY OR EVEN SPEAK THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE VERY WELL. ( ATT STILL HAS GOOD SERVICE PERSONNEL.

  19. No one should be surprised by this company’s lack of interior color options; I mean, look at what they do with the exterior color choices made available……50 shades of gray, black and white. Bring out a desirable color and discontinue it halfway through the year-build cycle.

These are the hallmarks of a company that is run by suits and not people in love with building cars. A company that cannot afford to set aside money for a tan, oyster gray or red interior. No manual shifting truck for you and you can have any engine you like as long as it’s the 2.7 4 cylinder.

  24. Black and Tan has always been my preference. I’ve had to live with black interior in my K2XX for the past 9 years. Never again will I purchase a vehicle with black leather seats. Summer heat sucks big time! When shelling out the thousands for a top-of-the-line Canyon why can’t Government Motors offer Adient seating like the Recaro seats in the Raptor?

  32. Whoever chooses these colors for GM must be the person that didn’t get hired by other brands. This is the first time in maybe ever that actual red is not a color on a Chevrolet truck with the Colorado. Radiant Red is maroon, not red. Victory Red should forever be a color on all GM vehicles. Hyper Blue Metallic is their best bright blue. Indigo Blue Metallic and Cobalt Blue Metallic are the best dark blue colors. Tan should definitely be an interior color. GM has always pushed dark gray and black interiors for some reason and they’re cheap looking.

  36. More exterior colors are needed across all trim levels in the Colorado. The last 2 pickups I have purchased, have had 3 color choices, Summit White, Satin Steel Metallic and Black. Then they had a Bright Blue Metallic which cost $400.00 more. Also bring back the 3.6L V6 engine please!

  37. 70-year-old man, bought my first truck when I was 16 and I’ve drove nothing but trucks. I live in Florida now and I can’t believe the only interior color I can get is black. What is wrong with a tan or light gray. I’ve heard the argument that black does not show dirt. Personally, I like to know if my seats are dirty. I’ve been a loyal Chevrolet GMC customer and I want to buy a new truck. I’m not going to buy a truck with black interior, forcing me to look at other manufacturers. Black interior also gets hot in Florida. As a truck lover all my life this is crazy – black interior only.

  38. I agree ,GM has little imagination with interior colors. I’d like to go a step further with colors for the Colorado and Canyon. Why not expand color palette for exterior colors. GM has some beautiful green shades right now on other models. Why not on the trucks. I’m tired of white, black and grey.

  39. Yes I think Chevy should offer more interior colors for the 2025 Chevy Colorado. Chevy should cater to people who would like to have Tan interior. Like me I want Red with Tan interior instead of Red with black interior like you see in the 2024 Colorado when go to the dealers lot.
