If the trailering software of your 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 or 2024 GMC Sierra HD isn’t working as it should, the problem might be caused by an issue recently identified by GM.
According to an article on GM TechLink, symptoms of this problem in the 2024 GMC Sierra include the system’s inability to correctly calibrate one or more of the trailering functions. A partial workaround is known, but there is no overall fix available at this time.
The calibration problem, which is believed to originate in the Video Processing Module, usually happens while trying to set up trailering features on 2024 GMC Sierra trucks that are fitted with the Surround Vision Cameras (RPO code UV2) and Trailer Camera Provisions (RPO code TRG).
Systems with the Video Processing Module software issue will be unable to calibrate the trailering features listed here:
- Transparent trailer
- Jack knife alert
- Trailer length indicator
- Biasing view
- Rear trailer guidelines
- Articulation angle indicator
Furthermore, trailering calibration will fail if the owner enters a trailer height of 119 inches or higher during setup. The software was designed to handle trailer heights between 0.39 inches and 177.1 inches (or one and 450 centimeters), but has been found to accept only heights between 0.39 inches and 118 inches.
Until a fix becomes available, GM suggests a workaround to this calibration problem as a temporary solution. Calibration will complete and all trailer features will become normally functional if the trailer height is entered as 118 inches regardless of its actual height. Entering 118 inches for taller trailers will not cause any problems in operation of the trailering system.
New software that eliminates this calibration failure is under development by GM’s engineering department and will eventually be released for the 2024 GMC Sierra. At this point the exact date of the software release for the truck’s Video Processing Module is not known, though it will be designed to enable full calibration and normal function of all trailering features.
GM advises against attempting to fix the problem by replacing parts, since software is believed to be at the root of the issue and swapping out components cannot change the underlying system.

what? none of those are needed. we have all towed just fine without 4000 sensors (that apparently dont even work)
stop the madness
All these may initially appear as nice features to have, but if you need all this stuff you probably shouldn’t be hauling a trailer or even driving this kind of truck. In the end we all pay for this stuff when engineering, development, and maintenance costs get spread over all models, in other words the poorest trucks subsidized the richest.
While the engineers are hard at work, why don’t someone slide a sheet of paper to have them allow a 6 tire (3 axle) trailer that is longer (48 to 50 foot long) and the TPS tire sensors can transmit and relieve data while driving! Excellent needs immediate action!
I totally agree, I had a 2020 dually and what I did was extend a self made wire harnesss from the bed ot the truck and under the trailer to mount the trailer TMPS reciever about 4 feet from the first set of my triple axle trailer. Agast…. I turned in my 2020 denali dually (AND I took ,y harness out of the truck and replaced the rerciever in the normal place behind the rear plate. I again will attempt to get the harness male and female connector for the “new” TMPS reciever. But I have 4 dozen branding irons in the fire at the moment. It on the to-do list.
Thanks
Chuck
Someone told me the other day that my concerns about such elaborate systems failing were unwarranted. Thank you (again) GMC for restoring my faith in deciding to opt out of such unnecessary and unwarranted complexities. My 2024 Sierra 3500HD is the low end PRO model. Without most of the optional safety features. Hell, I may even see it before 2024!
THANK YOU! I have been working on getting this camera calibrated all day! I entered the height of my trailer including the AC unit on the roof (I thought that would be a good measurement to have handy). When I put in a smaller measurement, it calibrated right away.
Again, thanks!
