Sales of the GMC Sierra – which consists of the Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD – increased 46 percent to 73,219 units over the course of Q3 2023. During the same timeframe, the average transaction price (ATP) of Big Red’s pickup truck also rose, albeit more mildly.
According to a report from Cox Automotive, the ATP of the GMC Sierra during Q3 2023 jumped by four percent to $71,718. Overall, the GMC brand’s average transaction price stood at $64,049 in the third quarter, a nine-percent increase over Q3 2022 figures. Meanwhile, parent company General Motors posted a 21-percent sales increase for a total of 669,199 vehicles sold during Q3 2023, while ATPs rose one percent to $52,117.
It’s worth noting that GMC’s pickups, including the GMC Sierra and the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, boast the highest average transaction prices in the full-size segment.
As a reminder, the Sierra 1500 is offered with a number of engines choices, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
Meanwhile, the Sierra HD is equipped with the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, as standard on most trims, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, is optional on most trims.
Under the skin, the Sierra rides on the GM T1 platform. Production of the Sierra 1500 takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico, while the Sierra HD is assembled at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.
