The 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 pickup is the subject of a service bulletin recently published by GM, which describes a fix now available to correct a glitch that keeps the truck in Sport Mode across key cycles.
Chevrolet dealership service personnel now have an available remedy to correct the Body Control Module (BCM) and eliminate the glitch without the need for replacement components.
2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 trucks equipped with the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine – which is now offered on the ZR2 and develops 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque – are vulnerable to the Sport Mode glitch.
Before repair procedures are begun, dealer service workers should check to see if the truck is marked “Open” on its Investigate Vehicle History screen within the GM Global Warranty Management system. If marked “Open,” the Silverado ZR2 is affected and the fix should be applied.
In order to correct the glitch, the service personnel should reprogram the truck’s Body Control Module. This procedure is a software-only fix, requiring no physical components, and will eliminate the glitch. The process takes less than an hour to finish.
Chevy dealerships are expected to apply the fix to 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 trucks they currently have in inventory before selling or delivering them. Additionally, the glitch correction is available free of charge to current ZR2 owners until the end of the vehicle’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.
According to the GM owner’s manual for the model, Sport Mode “improves vehicle handling and acceleration on dry pavement.” In order to achieve this, the mode alters the exhaust valve configuration while also adjusting steering characteristics, transmission shifting, the brake pedal feel, and the tuning of the suspension to give the truck appropriate handling and acceleration.
As is typical for a service bulletin, owners of affected Silverado ZR2 trucks can call Chevrolet customer service at the helpline below, referring to the Service Bulletin number, to request more information:

Why would it be a glitch if my truck stayed in the mode I left it in after I turned it off and restarted it? It seems more like a glitch if I have to turn it on every time. Same with Tow/Haul. Guess I am bassackwards lol
