GM has issued a service bulletin for a fix addressing an issue that affects certain 2021 Chevy Tahoe Police Vehicle (PPV) units whose emergency light flashers may not be enabled.
The potentially affected Chevy Tahoe vehicles are equipped with the Sales Package – Police Vehicle (SEO code 9C1), which Chevrolet classifies as a fleet vehicle option with a Special Equipment Options code rather than a passenger vehicle RPO code.
Affected Police Vehicles will have non-functional emergency light flashers. Dealership service personnel can confirm that a specific vehicle is involved by checking to see if it is marked “Open” on the Investigate Vehicle History screen. This can be accessed through the GM Global Warranty Management system.
A further verification is to be carried out by actually inspecting the vehicle to see the described issue is present. The inspection involves checking software and calibration level and requires an average of 12 minutes.
One involvement in the service bulletin is confirmed, the fix for the 2021 Chevy Tahoe Police Vehicle consists of reprogramming two modules. The Body Control Module and the Lighting Control Module must be reprogrammed with the correct calibration to make the emergency light flashers properly functional again.
This process takes about 48 minutes to complete on average. Reprogramming of the module software is the only step required. No physical parts are needed to complete the repair. The service bulletin and its fix are available until the specific 2021 Chevy Tahoe Police Vehicle’s period of New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.
The fix should be applied both to Police Vehicle units currently in dealership inventory and to vehicles that are brought back to the dealer for any reason, such as servicing or repair.
Owners of 2021 Chevy Tahoe Police Vehicle units can contact Chevrolet customer service if they have additional questions, concerns, or requirements for information.
