Chevy vehicles provide below-average levels of emotional satisfaction and excitement according to the Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout or APEAL section of the J.D. Power 2023 Mexico Vehicle Dependability Study, the automotive sector analysis firm reported last week.
The Chevy score of 889 out of a possible 1,000 points was slightly lower than the mass-market vehicle segment average of 897 points, and significantly below the segment winner, Kia, at 919 points.
The APEAL study found that owners in Mexico gained the greatest emotional satisfaction from infotainment systems, vehicle setup and starting, and the interior. While specific rating details of the brands are not provided, the strong value put on infotainment, technology, and interior quality may hint at areas consumers find less than satisfactory when it comes to Chevy.
Specific sore spots for mass-market vehicle owners also resulted from problems with the driver assistance technology and less pleasant driving experience. On average these issues deducted 33 points and 29 points respectively from the rating given to a mass-market vehicle.
Compact vehicles offered almost as much satisfaction at 922 points out of 1,000 as did premium SUVs, rated a 923 points. J.D. Power de Mexico senior director Gerardo Gomez pointed out that the data indicates owners experience “a pleasurable driving experience behind the wheel of an affordable vehicle – something that is likely top-of-mind for many in the current economy.”
The APEAL score aggregates the results of study participant ratings on a 1 to 100 scale in ten different areas. These vehicle characteristics include powertrain, driving feel, safety, fuel economy, comfort, exterior, entering and leaving the vehicle, vehicle start and setup, interior, and infotainment features.
J.D. Power used responses from 6,049 vehicle owners in Mexico to determine its results. All are owners of 2020 to 2022 model-year vehicles who bought their vehicle new rather than used.
The numbers were crunched to achieve analytical results for both car buyers and manufacturers using not only experienced human analysts, but also AI and advanced algorithms for better accuracy.

Whatever! Last week you said Chevrolet scored 3rd highest! Make up your mind Zi think these studies are just dog squeeze.
Chevy ranked third highest in U.S. customer satisfaction last week.
This study ranked it lower in Mexico customer satisfaction (though it is still very high at 889 out of 1,000 points).
The studies were conducted in different countries, so it hardly seems impossible for different groups of people to have significantly different opinions of the same brand.
