The 2023 Chevy Colorado has survived multiple rounds of selection in the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards, or NACTOY to be one of the three category finalists competing for the Truck of the Year award.
NACTOY selects three vehicles for its awards, with the Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, and Utility Vehicle of the Year to be revealed at a final Awards event on January 4th, 2024.
The 2023 Chevy Colorado is now moving on to the winner selection stage in competition with two other vehicles. One of these is another Bow Tie vehicle, the Chevy Silverado EV electric truck, while the other is the 2023 Ford Super Duty pickup. The Chevy Colorado and Silverado EV are the only two survivors from the ten GM vehicles originally among the pool of 52 vehicles contending for the prize.
GM’s single Car of the Year contender, the hybrid-powered Chevy Corvette E-Ray, was eliminated at an earlier stage of the process. All six of The General’s models that were competing for 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, including the new-for-North America Buick Envista, the refreshed Cadillac XT4, the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax, the Chevy Blazer EV, the Chevy Equinox EV, and the GMC Hummer EV SUV have also dropped out of the running.
The latest round of eliminations followed an event in Ann Arbor, Michigan during which the NACTOY jurors took the 24 remaining models on a comparison drive. The jurors are an assortment of independent American and Canadian automotive journalists, providing a cross-section of different opinions and perspectives in an effort to make the results as fair as possible.
As a reminder, GM unveiled the 2023 Chevy Colorado with an extensive list of updates and changes, launching the midsize pickup’s fresh, fully-overhauled third generation. The truck got new styling, a fresh interior, and an array of safety and driver assist technology. It is powered by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine with three different available tunes depending on trim level.
Previously, the NACTOY awards gave the 2020 Corvette the title of North American Car of the Year back in 2020.
