Chevy Blazer EV Doesn’t Include Free Home Charging Station Installation

One of the biggest distinctions between electric vehicles and their ICE-powered counterparts is the ability to “fuel up” at the owner’s home, potentially eliminating the need to stop and charge while out on the road. Of course, this requires that a home charging station be installed, and select buyers of the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV receive this installation for free. However, that offer doesn’t apply to the Chevy Blazer EV.

Available to eligible customers who purchased or leased a 2022 or 2023 model year Bolt EV or Bolt EUV, this installation promotion includes the purchase and installation of a 240-volt outlet from a vendor selected by General Motors. However, there are a few caveats, including the fact that installation must be performed at the customer’s primary residence, that additional costs may apply, and that neither a charging unit nor compatible charging cord are included as part of the promotion.

It’s worth noting that customers who don’t meet all the parameters for a standard installation may be eligible for alternative charger offers. For those who may be interested in learning more about this promotion and how to apply, be sure to check out the Chevy Installation page.

Side profile of Chevy Blazer EV.

Interestingly, the purchase or lease of a Chevy Blazer EV doesn’t include free installation of a home charging station. However, a dual-level portable charge cord is supplied as standard, which connects to either 120V or 240V outlets.

As a reminder, the Blazer EV will be available in variety of trim levels, including 2LT, RS, and SS. The 2LT and RS trims are the first two produced, while the SS is set to follow in Spring 2024.

In regard to structure, all variants of the Blazer EV ride on the GM BEV3 platform, and are motivated by GM Ultium Drive motors and GM Ultium batteries. A wide variety of drivetrain configurations will be offered, and include either FWD (2LT, RS), RWD (RS), or AWD (2LT, RS, SS).

  1. I bought a gas vehicle 2 years ago and no one has built a filling station in my front yard yet. WTH???

  2. What you really need if you own an EV is a 40-50-amp 240-volt circuit in your garage. Doing it after the home or garage is already built can be a pain in the ass. Costly too. Electricians don’t come cheap.

    1. The wiring for my Autel 50A EVSE (charger) was a whole $500 and was easier than getting practically any other appliance installed.

  3. Same as the hummer offer more or less then. Tomy surprise a hummer owner I talked to did get 24 months free fast charging at EVGO stations.

Blazer EV does include a 12o/240 volt cord so at least u can charge slowly at home right off the bat.

  4. Chevrolet.com lists the Bolts and the Blazer as having free charging stations included.

    1. Every gm ev except hummer gets a free charging ‘station’ cord. The article here is whether Qmerit will install a 230 volt 32 amp receptacle for free or not.

Now if u want a charging station wallbox, gm offer has NEVER paid for those. Wiring to it at best in lieu of receptacle.

  5. Confusion may have been with the 2014-2016 ELR Cadillac did offer For a Time $1,000 off installation of a $600 Bosch 30 amp wall box which turned out to be very unreliable. The Caddy at the time could only take 15 amps anyway. So if installation of wiring to wall Box was more than $400 people just installed a cheaper 15 amp round Chevy Voltec charger docking station.

For a full EV however, GM has never paid for any part of a Wallbox. Customer has to pay for the full cost of the unit if that is what the customer wants.

  6. Home installation page for home charging has plenty of confusion built in:

For instance it says the 80 ampere ultium wall box for $1,299 will charge a 2024 bolt ev at 58 miles per hour.

The only complications are that the early Bolts could only take 32 amperes. The latest Bolts can take 48
Amperes. Only the 2023 Caddy Lyriq and 2024 Lyriq , Hummer, some 2024 Blazer evs( a $1,580 option on the vehicle), and future ev trucks can take a full 80 amperes.

So GM marketing itself is rather clueless as to how this stuff works

I used to think it’s pretty simple, but it is too complex for GM marketing apparently.

The Caddy website does say the LYRIQ with the $1,580 optional 80 amp in lieu of 48 amp charging facility can gain 51 miles if charged at 240 volts, 80 amp draw. That at least makes sense

  7. Look it is more added cost to a vehicle GM is already having trouble lowering the price on.

They give it for gree the price goes up.

Adding the power is not hard and if you do buy one of these odds are you can afford it. Many garages already have 240 or are near where 240 is available,.

The real problem is if you do not have a garage and then there is no place to put it.

EV can be a part of the market but they are going to be a problem being all of the market in many areas. The government has over stepped in thinking this will work for everyone every place. At some point in the future maybe but not now or soon.

We all need to make this an election topic and make these people in office accountable for this. It is not the automakers it’s the idiots in office and their dreams of a green agenda.

  8. Other possible confusion.

I was under the impression you got one 12 to 32 amperes charge cord per blazer ev purchase. Under charger choices they don’t make very clear that the first 2 choices are this cord with 2 different adapters included with the vehicle.

They say the price of the cord is $450, presumably if u want additional cords. But it’s not clear. Interesting also is that the identical cord and adapters are $350 for the Hummer EV.

The lower powered third choice ultium wallbox says it is corded but hard wiring is optional.

An explanation. It is hard wireable at no extra cost.

National Electrical Code currently will only allow up to 40 amps on a residence receptacle for continuous duty. Therefore if you are trying to fully utilize this 48 amp wallbox at 48 amps, it must be installed without the input plug in range/RV cordset on a 60 amp circuit.
