From a segment share standpoint, the Silverado earned a 27 percent share, up two percentage points year-over-year. The F-Series posted a 35 percent segment share, up one percentage point. The Ram Pickup held a 20 percent share, down five percentage points, followed by the Sierra with a 14 percent share, up three percentage points. The Tundra maintained a four percent share, while the Titan had a share of just one percent.

Combining the Chevy Silverado along with the GMC Sierra gives GM a commanding 41 percent segment share for 217,560 deliveries, outselling the Ford F-Series by over 30K units to keep The General as the best-selling manufacturer of full-size pickups in America. That means, during Q3 2023, GM sold two out of every five internal combustion-powered full-size pickup trucks in the U.S., very favorably competing against its four rivals.

The GM Authority Take

The healthy growth in Chevy Silverado sales during Q3 is very welcome news. Things get even better when taking into account the fact that combined sales of the Silverado and Sierra puts GM far ahead of Ford in the segment, enabling The General to continue as the best-seller of full-size pickup trucks in U.S., selling over 30K more trucks than the Ford F-Series.

With refreshed models and extreme off-road offerings now available across-the-board for Chevy’s trucks, the Bow Tie brand is well-positioned now and into the near future to not only maintain sales volume and share, but to grow it. That should come as great news given that pickups are the lifeblood of General Motors.

About Chevrolet Silverado

The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 arrives as the fourth model year of the fourth-generation nameplate, introducing a few changes and updates over the refreshed 2022.5 Silverado. The big news for the 2023 Silverado 1500 was the introduction of the even more off-road capable, first-ever 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison.

For 2024, the turbo 2.7L engine in the Silverado 1500 will be branded as TurboMax. Furthermore, the upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 will receive the second-generation Hydra-Matic 8L80 eight-speed automatic transmission in conjunction with that engine. Meanwhile, the 2024 Silverado High Country will be available with the Midnight Edition Package, and the 2024 Silverado ZR2 will offer the LZ0 Duramax diesel engine, joining the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine for available powerplants. That 6.2 liter will sound meaner thanks to a new Active Exhaust system.

Last fall, GM unveiled the refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD with new exterior styling, an overhauled interior, new tech including standard wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control, and upgrades to the powertrain lineup. The updated Silverado HD also offers a new High Country Premium package which replaces the High Country Deluxe package offered previously. Also, the 2024 Silverado HD offers two new 22-inch wheel options.

In April, The General debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 as the flagship off-roader for the Bow Tie brand’s heavy-duty pickup line, while the new Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 Bison takes the big rig even further when it comes to off-road capability.

Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD cradles the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional. The diesel engine also boasts an improved, SAE-certified output of 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, improvements to both metrics over the 2020 thru 2023 model years. For 2024, the gasoline engine now connect to GM’s ten-speed automatic transmission, replacing the GM six-speed for prior model years.

Looking ahead, the upcoming 2025 Chevy Silverado HD will add a Silverado HD Trail Boss trim level for the first time ever, per exclusive GM Authority reporting.
