Once sales of the GMC Sierra EV begin next year, we will add it to the mix.

The GM Authority Take

There’s not much to say regarding sales of the Chevy Silverado EV, since sales have only recently begun. But begin they have, providing another entry into the nascent yet growing battery electric pickup truck space. This space is outside the traditional full-size trucks segment, where GM reigns supreme.

With the EV truck segment on our radar, we’ll continue to publish analysis of this nascent but growing space that will eventually rival the ICE-powered one, though it’s probably hard to believe that this will be the case as of this writing. At the least, the current sales scenario might make one wonder when that will actually happen.

We think this is a legitimate concern since GM EV production targets are challenged by battery supply. The automaker aims to be the North American EV market leader by mid-decade, announcing early last year that it expects to reach a capacity of one million EV units in North America by the end of 2025. Some analysts, however, believe that GM’s 1-million-unit goal may be hampered by limited supplies of batteries and a slow production ramp-up at its new U.S. battery plants. To that end, GM has recently abandoned plans to build 400,000 EVs in North America by the middle of the decade.

In fact, even software fine-tuning can hamper production, subsequently prompting GM to delay the launch of the Chevy Equinox EV, Silverado EV RST, and GMC Sierra EV.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT interior differs from other trim levels

About Chevrolet Silverado EV

The first-ever 2024 Chevy Silverado EV made its official debut at CES 2022, arriving in both the well-equipped RST First Edition and fleet-focused WT trim levels. The latter is the only Silverado EV variant currently on sale.

The all-electric Silverado was engineered from the ground up to be exclusively an electric vehicle. Rather than utilizing the automaker’s T1 truck platform, the all-new pickup truck leverages the available 24-module Ultium Battery pack as a fundamental part of the vehicle’s structure. Both the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV ride on a variant of the GM BT1 platform that underpins the Hummer EV Pickup, powered by Ultium Batteries and Ultium Drive motors. Among many other firsts for GM full-size pickups, the BT1 platform also utilizes independent front and rear suspensions.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV 3WT and 4WT delivers an estimated 450 miles of range from a full charge, and the 2024 Silverado EV 4WT has a maximum tow rating of 10,000 pounds, as well as a maximum payload rating of 1,400 pounds.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition

The Silverado EV will be offered in the RST trim level, debuting as the RST First Edition, a Trail Boss trim, and the aforementioned WT variants. Other trims, such as a new Custom trim level that GM Authority was first to report about as well as High Country, are expected to join the lineup down the line.

The RST First Edition features GM’s Adaptive Air Ride suspension as standard, as well four-wheel-steering for improved maneuverability like that of the Hummer EV Pickup.

Naturally, the Chevy Silverado EV will draw comparisons to the ICE-based Chevy Silverado 1500. Check out our exterior and interior dimensional comparison for both models.

Production of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck began this past June at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan, previously known as the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant.

  1. Lucky Lopez did a good video on YT explaining the the current situation with EV and sales, or lack thereof. If you don’t want to watch the video, let’s cut to the chase: Nobody wants this S * I T and you won’t force anyone to buy it. Keep losing money trying to invest in it. No sweat off the rest of America’s backs.

  6. Didn’t Tesla start selling the Cyber Truck as well? Should the Cyber Truck be on this list?
Kind of surprising that the F150 hasn’t closed in on the Rivian R1T (is this due to the strike?)
