Toyota has unveiled the 2025 Toyota Camry, debuting a new generation for the four-door Chevy Malibu rival. The all-new 2025 Toyota Camry is now offered exclusively with a hybrid powertrain, and is available with all-wheel drive, neither of which is available on the current Chevy Malibu. The new-generation Camry also marks the end of the V6 engine for the midsize sedan, as the Camry was the last model to offer a six-cylinder powerplant in its segment.
Highlights for the all-new 2025 Toyota Camry start with a redesigned exterior, which includes LED headlights across the range, and functional air ducts, front-side canards, and a rear diffuser on sportier trim levels. Two-tone paint is offered as well.
Inside the cabin, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, while a 12.3-inch digital cluster is equipped higher in the range. A 10-inch head-up display is optional, while an eight-inch touchscreen and available 12.3-inch touchscreen handle infotainment duties. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are equipped as standard, as is a Qi wireless charging pad. The new Camry also boasts a suite of safety systems, with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert equipped as standard.
Providing the motivation is Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, with a 2.5L four-cylinder equipped for internal combustion duties. Output is routed to the front axle as standard, or all four wheels as optional. Output ranges up to 232 combined horsepower for all-wheel-drive models, a 30-horsepower increase compared to the preceding mechanical all-wheel-drive model. All-wheel drive will be available across the lineup.
As a reminder, the Chevy Malibu previously offered a hybrid powertrain between 2016 and 2019, specifically the 1.8L I4 LKN engine, rated at 182 horsepower and serving up a combined 46 mpg for the 2019 model year.
The Camry’s suspension and braking systems were also reengineered, with Toyota placing an emphasis on balanced handling and comfort.
The 2025 Toyota Camry will hit Toyota dealers next spring.

meh. but at the same time the malibu is also bad. hopefully the next gen malibu will wipe the floor
Great news.
4 cylinder Hybrid with powerful motors can provide better performance than V6 and better fuel economy than Diesel.
Probably the competition from Tesla Model 3 which is cheaper after fuel cost savings has pushed Toyota to go hybrid alone.
Besides Toyota has already sold 25 million electrified vehicles and wants to increase this share to keep the BEVs at bay.
If they charge $30 K+, then Malibu gets a chance to compete, otherwise sorry.
I wish GM also launch next gen Malibu with both full hybrid and plugin hybrid with 40 mile range to compete better.
You will be able to get the Malibu at 5K off MSRP. That how it will move sales. Also it’s not as gaudy
^^^^^Once again someone feels that using someone else’s info is funny. Grow up and stop using my info. This comment is not from me:
” And it will have horrific resale value like typical GM products while that Camry will hold its value and reward its owner with low depreciation, great fuel economy, high reliability, and high customer satisfaction.”
I seriously doubt a 232 HP hybrid 4 cylinder in a heavier body will be quicker than the outgoing 301 HP V6. More efficient certainly
Most Likely just like the Avalon now the Toyota Crown. The Camry will have the turbo charged hybrid max with around 340 Hp at a later day for it TRD or GR Camry.
Yikes, the Camry front fascia gets uglier every year; though it has a huge following, and is number one in the segment, so I guess it can afford to look ugly. The next generation Malibu has to have a great-looking exterior because it doesn’t enjoy the huge margin-of-error the Camry has.
Malibu’s turning radius is 18 ft, so probably not
Malibu is DOA. Who writes these articles?
You mean Malibu is a rival of Camry. Hardly even at that. They don’t even seem to be in the same class. Does any Camry (or Accord) intender cross-shop Malibu? I doubt it.
As opposed to other cars which are solid blue chip investments that gain value over time…..
This is what Chevy needs to do with the Malibu. It only needs a new front end, tail end, engine and interior.
The issue is Toyota automatically gets a pass, the car could be from 1920 underneath and no one would say a thing….
If the bracket holding on the rear view mirror on the Malibu was from the previous gen it would be the main focus of every piece written about the car. Remember when the Malibu lost .002% of rear seat leg room and the press was acting like the rear seat was now a russian gulag?
