General Motors has released a safety recall for certain units of the 2024 Chevy Trax due to an issue related to the instrument panel.
The problem: affected vehicles equipped with the audio system and 11-inch touchscreen (RPO code IVA) as well as the eight-inch fully digital Driver Information Center (RPO code URO) options may contain software that can cause the instrument panel to intermittently black out during vehicle startup or while driving.
The hazards: if the instrument panel were to go black while driving, the driver’s attention may be unintentionally diverted, which could lead to an increased risk of an accident.
The fix: certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect affected vehicles and reprogram the software as necessary. Notably, vehicles that received the updated software through GM’s previously launched service bulletin are not included in this recall.

It’s worth noting that the audio system with 11-inch touchscreen (IVA) and eight-inch fully digital Driver Information Center (URO) are equipped as standard on LT, 2RS and Activ trim levels. The LS and 1RS models receive the base Chevrolet Infotainment Three audio system with eight-inch touchscreen (IOR) and the Driver Information Center with 3.5-inch monochromatic display (UDC).
Number of affected vehicles: According to GM, 35,186 Chevy Trax units are affected by the recall, in addition to 17,306 units of the Buick Encore GX and 6,289 units of the Buick Envista.
Owners should: General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their local GM dealer. Any owners that are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this recall can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to see any open recalls or other actions that may be active on it. Owners can also reach out to Chevy or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) directly with any questions or concerns they may have using the recall number and contact information included below.

What happens when a car company thinks it can easily become a software company….
GM has a lot issues with their tech. Colorado , etc i wonder how much they’ve spent on their technology. Seems to be issue for any new gm truck or car.
The real danger from AI isn’t “taking over the world”.

Notice whenever they show a pic of “Red Tintcoat” or “Crimson” on paper or online they always lighten and brighten it so it looks better?
And NONE of the “shining stars” in GM’s Design or Marketing has come up with the brainstorm, “HEY, I have an idea … why don’t we just ‘lighten and brighten’ the effing paint !?” ……. just a thought .
We specifically wanted the “analog-style” dash gauges. Not a fan of the reflection from the screen behind the steering wheel in the 2RS we test drove. We’re still waiting (since July) for our blue LS to arrive at the dealership. It has the base “Chevrolet Infotainment Three audio system with eight-inch touchscreen (IOR) and the Driver Information Center with 3.5-inch monochromatic display (UDC).” It also has a real ignition key!
We would have paid extra for the non-cloth (Evotex) seats, but Chevrolet forces you to get the recalled dash screens and push-button start if you don’t want cloth seats. So, cloth seats it will be.
At work we have a new Trax 1 RS. It has the standard dash and cloth seats. The car is in Canada so it has heated front seats and a heated steering wheel standard.
I have had more than 40 new GM cars, pickups , Vans and SUVs in my life . The Trax is an incredible vehicle and offers unparalleled value especially in the 1 RS trim.
Even in 1RS this car is very quiet on the highway. The 1.2turbo is more than adequate for intended purpose, the car never feels underpowered in everyday driving both in town and on the highway.
The 6 speed trans works well and we are averaging 32-34 mpg
and as I’ve said the car is very quiet you barely hear the engine.
Some criticize the hard plastic on the doors and instrument panel.
The car actually does not look cheap inside, and its very comfortable . I have driven it 5-6 hours in 1 day over 400k and I gotta say when I grip the heated wheel , feel the heated seats , listen to the base stereo its a very comfortable place to spend time , you never think of how hard the plastic is in the cabin because its is so comfortable !!
This is a great car , and even a greater value for what it offers especially in the 1RS trim. I believe those who are critics , have not driven it !!!
Nothing is wrong with the Trax just a simple software update and that’s it. Also the Trax has and option to update it’s own software it’s easy and has to happen this way. Are cell phones do the same thing and pretty much every thing else is nothing but software no matter what you get software runs it. As for the glare or reflection in the digital cluster what are you sitting all the way up on the steering wheel how the hell are you getting a reflection off that screen? That’s the dumbest $hit I have heard so far. I can’t get a reflection in mine so I don’t know what your talking about. No matter what even the LS is software driven. Doesn’t matter what model or what vehicle you get it’s all ran by software!
Please do not buy the 2024 Chevy trax vehicle does not have any parts available contacted General Motors and basically they told me they cannot do anything my car been Park for 6 months paying for a suv I can’t drive don’t buy it please
I had a crash with my 2024 Trax due to recall problem and it has been a nightmare. Please let me know how many others of you are out there and what we can do about it.
i have a 2024 trax with blue line down the screen they said they were going to replace screen but then chevy said no we will send a software flash. this doesnt take care of the blue line. Anyone else have this problem and a remedy.
