Back in November 2022, GM Authority reported on the debut of a new standalone remanufacturing operation in Australia to reconfigure the Chevy Silverado HD, among others, for sale in the Oceania market through General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV). Now, The General has revealed that the 2024 Silverado HD will make its arrival in Australia and New Zealand very soon.
Announced alongside the news of the launch of the GMC Yukon and Corvette E-Ray, right-hand-drive 2024 Silverado HD units will begin to be configured at the Dandenong, Victoria facility as of November 2023. After that process begins, the first batch of heavy duty pickup trucks are expected to reach showroom floors as soon as December 2023.
As a reminder, the 2024 model year of the Chevy Silverado HD marks the arrival of a mid-cycle refresh in the U.S. that brought about updates and changed to the exterior, interior, and powertrain. For starters, a new front fascia is highlighted by revised headlamps and a new grille design, the former of which incorporates a new C-shaped LED lighting scheme. There are new paint colors and wheel and tire options on offer, while all models are equipped with tow hooks as standard affair.
On higher-end trim levels, the interior has been completely overhauled and now features a 13.4-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch diagonal configurable driver information center. Notably, lower trims are still equipped with the pre-refreshed interior.
Under the hood, there are two engine options available, including the standard naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which has been uprated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both engines feature the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic as standard.
Under the skin, the Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform, which it shares with its corporate platform-mate, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD. Production in the United States kicked off in March 2023 at the GM Flint plant in Michigan, and a few weeks later at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.
