2024 Chevy Colorado Gets Revised Production Start Date

The 2024 Chevy Colorado is the second model year for the third-generation midsize pickup, introducing several important updates over the initial 2023 model year. The 2024 Chevy Colorado was initially expected to begin production on October 30th. Now, however, GM Authority has uncovered the revised production start date for the 2024 Chevy Colorado.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the revised date for the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Chevy Colorado is now set for December 11th, 2023. The revised date is likely the result of the United Auto Workers (UAW) labor strike. The UAW’s first target in the strike was the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, which produces the Chevy Colorado lineup. The UAW strike began September 15th, 2023 following the expiration of the previous labor contract. Workers at affected GM facilities did not begin returning to work until after the UAW and reached a tentative contract agreement late last month. It now looks as though UAW membership has ratified the new deal.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado introduces several important updates and changes compared to the completely overhauled 2023 Chevy Colorado. Among the changes introduced for the 2024 model year is the discontinuation of the mid-level Turbo Plus 2.7L engine.

The 2023 Chevy Colorado was previously available with three engine options, including the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, rated at 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, the Turbo Plus 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque, and the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

Now, with deletion of the mid-level Turbo Plus 2.7L I4 L3B engine, the 2024 Chevy Colorado offers only two engine options, specifically the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine and the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. In addition, the 2024 Colorado now adopts the GM TurboMax engine branding in conjunction with the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine.

As a reminder, the 2024 Colorado rides on the updated 31XX-2 platform.

  3. I ordered a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado last February and I still haven’t received it. The truck was built on March 25th and supposed to be shipped in June and was delayed for some reason. I contacted customer service here in Canada and they have no answers as to why my truck was delayed. If anyone at GMC could actually let me know why my truck was delayed this long I would appreciate it. Oh and customer service didn’t offer me any type of discount even though I will receive my vehicle until 2024. I am very disappointed. If anyone has any answers I would very much appreciate it.

  4. That is good news because I ordered mine 8 MONTHS AGO! I ordered it on March 3. The factory just accepted the order on Monday. Hopefully, I am not going to be Jason (above), and it will sit somewhere for another 9 months waiting on a magic chip.

  5. To my understanding they have a shut down for change over from 23’s to 24’s, how is it possible when 23 orders haven’t been filled yet. Mine is still waiting for a production date.

  6. Beautiful truck! I’m just a little hesitant about purchasing one at this time. I’ve heard some bad things about it. Not sure about all this strike stuff. Maybe some disgruntled workers building my 50,000.00 truck!! Just my opinion.

  7. I ordered a ’23 ZR2 last May. I received an “in production status number” on Tuesday September 12th and was told I’d have my truck in a couple weeks. Wentzville went on strike that same week on Friday. Last week, the dealer told me that Chevy will not be building and/or delivering any more ’23s and my order was canceled. I am now waiting for Chevy to open 2024 builds on their website to place an entirely NEW order. Good luck fellas!

    1. UPDATE – My dealer was able to place my new order for a 2024 ZR2 yesterday – this is confirmed. Annnnnnnd then today, he called and told me my 2023 (which had been canceled by the factory) has a build date of next week – the dealer is just as confused as I am. I ordered a different color for the 2024, so now he says I can decide which one I want when (and if) the 2023 arrives. I can’t imagine any other business could survive this level of dysfunction.

  9. I ordered a Canyon AT4 in July and it’s not going to get built. I get GMS thru my dad that retired after 34 years with GM and have always had GM vehicles, I;m going to just pay full sticker and get a 2024 Tacoma TRD. GM has been playing games with the Colorado/Canyon from the word go.

  10. I’ll keep driving my 2020 GMC Canyon All Terrain until the warranty is up, then go back to Toyota. I wanted to give an American manufacturer a chance but am having transmission issues at 40k miles.

  11. These engineers that work for GM should get some hints from Subaru and Tesla still can’t believe no buttons on the mirror to open and close garage doors. You have to pay $15 a month through on star to get navigational system and the miles and speed limit of the highway symbol Subaru Tesla. This is included on a Tesla and you can even open your garage doors 30 feet automatically before you enter the garage this is the worst vehicle I owned in my lifetime

  12. Let’s get back to the original article and its message. I believe those. “sources familiar with the matter,” were not as knowledgeable as they thought they were. A few reasons: 1) with only 10 days to go there is no ‘build and price’ site for the 2024 Colorado. It could be that SORP will be for dealer entered orders only. But that is unlikely. Second, when an announcement for SORP of the Colorado is made it is immediately followed by the twin’s announcement of the Canyon starting also. There is nowhere that says the Canyonn starts on December 11. It would seem ‘sources’ would know if Canyon is starting or not. Since the plant and lines produce both simultaneously, it is unlikely that a 23 Canyon and 24 Colorado will roll off. I believe everyone that is sitting on pins and needles awaiting this start should not get their hopes too high until December 12th. I don’t see it happening.

  13. Is it still set for 12-11-23, or did it get continued again? I just called Chevy, and they said they don’t know when production of the 2024 Colorado will start.
