For the 1936 model year, Buick supplanted their previous numerical naming scheme with actual names. The Series 40 became the Special, the Series 50 was called the Super, Series 60 became the Century, and the newest line was called the Buick Roadmaster. The Roadmaster was powered by the 320 cubic-inch Straight Eight overhead-valve engine that produced 120 horsepower.
The 1949 Buick Roadmaster was restyled for the first time since 1942, as Buick had been involved in the war effort. The new Roadmaster was shorter in both wheelbase and overall length, but had a larger curved-glass windshield. Oval ports called VentiPorts, that supposedly helped cool the engine compartment, were added to the front fenders. The Fireball Straight-8 made 150 horsepower, and the Dynaflow automatic transmission became standard equipment. Top speed was claimed to be 110 miles per hour.
Our feature 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible is finished in Sequoia Cream with a black cloth convertible top over a red interior. It is powered by the 320 cubic-inch Fireball inline eight-cylinder engine that is fed by a two-barrel carb. Backing the Fireball eight is a Dynaflow automatic transmission. Fender skirts adorn the rear fenders. Steel wheels are painted red, and wear full wheel covers and Firestone bias-ply wide whitewall tires.
Inside the 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible are power front split and rear bench seats upholstered in red material (no word on if it is vinyl or leather). The Roadmaster is equipped with power windows, heater/defroster, pushbutton radio, and dash clock. Included in the sale are spare keys, owner’s manual, Hydro-Lectric power system brochure, two Buick owner’s guides, tags for the clock, windshield washer, WeatherWarden Venti-Heater, Buick anti-freeze, copy of the old title, receipts, and the convertible top boot.
This handsome 1949 Buick Roadmaster will soon cross the Mecum Auctions block at their Kissimmee, Florida event taking place January 2nd through the 14th.

When cars had style and a life of there own. No cookie cutter car here. I hope it gets top dollar at the auction.
Ah, if my Uncle (1949 green/green Roadmaster 4-door) had only been a little more flamboyant!
If he had been even a little more flamboyant, he would jave been your Aunt!
You all forget to mention one thing this Time period was right after WW2 and our country was on a high economicly as well as to be proud to be an American and buy American made products . The whole car was sourced and built in America. Now a days I laugh at the Korean or WW2 war veteran driving a Toyota or Kia it also doesn’t help that everything is made in China now.
