The auto industry may be headed for electrification, but the dino-juice-burning speed machines we know and love aren’t going away quite yet. Ford proved as much by releasing the new Mustang GTD, a high-priced, track-focused model brimming with go-faster goodies. Which leads us to ask – what if GM made a rival to the Mustang GTD and slapped a Camaro badge on it? What would something like that look like? Well, we now have an answer – say hello the Camaro SSR 1LE.
Before we dive into this thing, it bears mentioning that, as of right now at least, GM has no known plans to actually produce a Camaro SSR 1LE model. In fact, the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro is headed for the door, with discontinuation set for the end of the 2024 model year. Nevertheless, we can’t help but dream, ya know?
With that out of the way, let’s take a closer look at what we’ve created. Like the Ford Mustang GTD, our Chevy Camaro SSR 1LE goes big on the aero, with a massive front splitter, front dive planes, fender vents, extended side skirts, and a gargantuan rear wing. All that aero stuff should help this monster stick to the ground like yesterday’s maple syrup, and make the most of the prodigious power on tap.
Speaking of power, we’re imagining our Camaro SSR 1LE motivated by the upcoming 5.5L V8 LT7, the same forced-induction gasoline engine set to power the forthcoming C8 Corvette ZR1. Exact specs are still forthcoming, but in a nutshell, the LT7 will be a forced-induction variant of the high-revving 5.5L V8 LT6 found just behind the cabin of the C8 Corvette Z06. And since we’re dreaming here, we might as well give it a Mustang GTD-beating output number – 850 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque should fit nicely.

Karen Motors doesn’t want to make fun cars anymore. They want electric, bland, cardboard cutout, basic B CUVs for everyone.
Hey now. What a terrible thing to say. If anyone knows what car guys like it’s an elderly communist woman in a pant suit.
And FYI – They actually sell this car right now but the paint, wing, body panels, engine and wheels are all on constraint. They also offer it in China under the name Dragon Edition Butt Wind Zoomy Eagle Kaw Kaw.
Karen Motors!!! 🤣🤣🤣 That’s perfect!
Fun to contemplate but I stand a better chance of winning the lottery than this concept has of becoming a reality at the “new gm”.
Never happen they just trashed the Camaro for EV’s that nobody wants.
Being a GM fan is definitely not easy! I’m sure many of us have wished we could be in charge of product decisions, I know I have lol. It’s a shame they didn’t put more consistency and effort into the Camaro program.
Would the 5.5 even fit?
I kept hoping to see a ‘69 replica come out with squared fender wells and available features like hiding headlights, Z28 trim, wheels. And I wish we could get back to auto’s being auto’s instead of a rolling personal computers.
ROFL! I like that description of an EV: ‘rolling personalized computer ‘. I’m thinking they are more like an ‘electronic mobile tracking device’!
Popular vehicles are being terminated because they aren’t a priority. I don’t see why we can’t have both, consumers have different needs and preferences. The government forced EV transition has turned the automotive industry on its head. Billions being invested on EV’s, while consumers won’t be in a hurry to replace their current vehicle. Corporations must invest profits into new infrastructure while trying to appease the UAW’s concern with job losses because of the EV transition. It’s difficult to know how much the industry can absorb, a lot of unknown factors are at play. A lot of being asked of the industry, without considering the financial ramifications for companies, suppliers, workers and consumers. Other major industries aren’t being required to transition so quickly, airlines and huge barges shipping goods around the world have a huge carbon footprint. Battery powered planes and boats aren’t the answer, global shipping is unnecessary. Wasting fuel and creating pollution that is avoidable. Relying on electricity to power everything is dangerous, diversity is the best way to power our economy. If you want a Camaro or Corvette, SUV or pickup that should be your choice whether it’s fueled by gas or electricity. My two favorite vehicles are the Camaro and Bolt EV!
Hey GM, build it!!
I don’t want to see it on the track. I want to drive it at the track! LOL
World’s largest Tesla Supercharger in Firebaugh, California now open. It is powered by a
Dessel Generator not too bright of the color green.
I have a $100 slot for Silverado EV but I think I will run my 06 HD 2500 with a 6.2 L till it dies (if it Evers)
2500 with the 6.2 or 6.0?
FYI? GM made this car in 2015. They had the Camaro Z28. Remake that with the LT5
It will never happen as long as the current GM management is in place. Electrification has its place but not in any bone rattling ass puckering sports car.
IDK. I’m about to take the electricity out of my house. Gas stove, gas freeze and gas lamps. Gas lamps also have an awesome hue and don’t need replaced as much as lightbulbs
Too bad looks like a real nice car but don’t leave it up to GM. They’ll never build it.
Gross. Even worse than the ZL1.
Camaro is the only one that looks the best in base trim and gets worse the higher up on package you go.
Sad seeing GM become so lame & pathetic these days. Giving in to the Left’s green agenda scam. What’s the point of forcing sportscars & supercars to become hybrid/EV, when of all cars sold in the US last year.. Just 1.5% were sportscars. And worldwide, 0.05% were supercars? Not to mention that many of them are garage queens or collector cars & barely get driven (if at all). So even if EV’s were actually better for Earth, and even if electricity came from thin air.. ‘fun’ cars are a drop in the bucket.
But they dont talk about how 60-80% of all electricty comes from burning coal, natural gas & oil anyway. Or about how polluting & toxic the mining, refining, production & transportation of minerals & batteries is. And how they only last 10yrs before needing to be recycled & replaced. The whole EV push is just making China rich, while they (and India) continue to be the majority polluters worldwide.
So us car enthusiasts suffer thanks to people forgetting that elections have consequences.😅
With the Queen and her “Left Wing” Court sitting there, everyone is afraid to make a suggestion that will not comply with their current agenda. They don’t want to hear “Off with their Heads”
Finally, a green Camaro! Sadly, it’ll never get built. Karen Motors CEO will see to that. As mentioned before, it sure is hard to be a GM fan! I think my fan is just about out of air after an entire life being a hard core Chevy man! Where will the loyalty come from now??? Good luck Karen!
The CAmaro is gone. GM won’t invest in a DEAD nameplate.
What kind of car company creates two variants of the Camaro called 1LT and LT1 and leaves it to their customer base to figure out which one of them is cool?
This is why I got discontinued and we need to be angrier about that
Dr, the 1LT is a trim package. The LT1 is an engine.
And that is not why this car was discontinued
Sorry Dr the LT1 used to be just an engine did not know they added to the trim options
Actually, the LT1 has been at least 3 different engines AND a trim package just under the SS trim.
