As GM Authority exclusively reported earlier this week, GM is set to bring a new Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss to market, with expectations that the new off-roader will make splashdown for the 2025 model year. The decision to finally offer a new Silverado HD Trail Boss model is particularly interesting given comments made by a GM executive regarding Chevrolet staying in its “own lane.”
Earlier this year, GM Authority interviewed Mike MacPhee, the ex-director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing, who has since been assigned a new role within GM. During the interview, we asked MacPhee why Chevrolet had not yet brought a new Silverado HD Trail Boss to market.
“Right now, General Motors has the GMC Sierra HD AT4 that plays in that space and we [at Chevrolet] need to stay in our own lane.”
Now, however, with the forthcoming arrival of the new Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss for the 2025 model year, it’s obvious that line of thinking has changed – and frankly, that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The GMC Sierra AT4 HD currently starts around $66,000, while we’d expect the new Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss to start around the high $50,000 to $60,000 range. We’d also expect the Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss to bring more value to the party.
Per a previous GM Authority exclusive, the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss will slot in above the Z71 package and below the ZR2 package in terms of pricing and capability. Features will likely rope in the same content as the Z71 package, including the off-road suspension and shocks, plus a factory lift and a set of all-terrain tires. The new Silverado HD Trail Boss is expected to be available exclusively in the Crew Cab body style and coupled with a single rear-wheel drive type. Powerplant options will include both the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine.
