Racing on pavement is one thing, but the situation gets a whole lot crazier when the surface turns into dirt. Throw in some jump and whoops, plus a pair of wild trucks, and you have a recipe for one very entertaining showdown. Now, we’re watching exactly that as a turbocharged 2003 Chevy Silverado Prerunner takes on a 1937 Ford Megatruck in the following video.
Once again coming to us from the folks at Hoonigan, this video takes the channel’s classic “This vs. That” formula in a whole new direction, putting two distinctly different vehicles against one another on a custom dirt course. The video is a little over 18 minutes long, and includes a walk around both competitors, plus several rounds of racing action.
Let’s kick it off with the Ford Megatruck. The owner calls it a “free style truck,” and uses it in competition in short course racing, mud racing, and of course, some big jumps too. Motivation is sourced from an alcohol-guzzling 548 cubic-inch Chevy V8 topped with a 14-71 supercharger. Boost is set at 17 psi for this particular event, with output estimated between 1,600 and 1,800 horsepower. That’s a lot of muscle, but this thing absolutely needs it thanks to a set of 64-inch tires mounted on a custom set of wheels. There’s also a set of 20-ton axles – real monster truck stuff. The whole rig weighs just under 10,000 pounds.
Insanity. So what’s this thing running against? Over in the other lane, we find a 2003 Chevy Silverado Prerunner body dropped on a trophy truck tube chassis. Under the hood is a 408 cubic-inch LS-based powerplant inhaling through a single Garrett G42-1200 turbocharger. Output is rated at 615 horsepower at the rear wheels and just under 700 pound-feet of torque. The suspension package includes 26 inches of travel up front and 29 inches in the rear.
These two machines are totally different, and will perform well in different parts of the track. But which will walk away the winner? Hit play to find out:

Screaming and pointing. No thanks. Lost me about 1 minute in.
Never Gonna happen in todays Chevy trucks. How bad did this thing break???? Maybe a square body, but not today’s Chevy.
Well it’s a prerunner so nothing.
I’d bet differently. This thing has a custom welded frame with little give. A stock truck has a roll formed ladder frame with thicker beams that has a degree of flex built in that would support substantially more abuse. The GMT800 platform that this body is from is insanely strong as well and would make a great jumper
Course then I get into the fact I think this guy is a knucklehead. Turbo Chevy???? Chevys respond way more to supercharging. Supercharging produces less heat, less weight, better power, and course the main reason, chevys have way more supercharge support than turbocharger support. A 408CI engine should be neighborhood of 800HP with a SC, but this guy wanted to go turbo I guess.
Body set on a trophy truck tube chassis which is nothing close to a factory chassis and are designed to take a beating. There is nothing cheap about a trophy truck.
