Pickup Truck Owners Are More Attractive, Survey Shows

While there are certainly a few benefits to owning a pickup truck – namely towing and hauling capacities as well as plenty of interior room – a number of today’s truck owners may purchase their pickup for other, less work-oriented reasons. Recently, one study found that many Americans own a truck simply for the “cool factor.”

According to a report from Cars.com, surveyed pickup owners stated that they get more compliments about their vehicle than any other vehicle they’ve previously owned, and that they’re paying a lot of money for those perks. In fact, the study found that 47 percent of consumers surveyed said pickup truck owners are more attractive!

“Pickup trucks are consistently some of the most searched vehicles on Cars.com,” the publication’s Detroit Bureau Chief Aaron Bragman stated. “In fact, searches for new pickups – despite the increasingly high price – are as strong as ever, up four percent over 2022. And for good reason: pickup trucks offer more versatility and utility and can haul, tow and go off-road – and are increasingly becoming great family vehicles.”

In the report, trucks from across the automotive market were compared against one-another to determine their best fit, which is as follows:

  • Budget-Friendly: 2024 Ford Maverick
  • Family: 2023 Ram 1500
  • Towing, Light Duty: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • Towing, Heavy Duty: 2023 Ford Super Duty F-250/350
  • Luxury: 2023 Ram 1500 Limited, Limited Longhorn
  • Off-Road: 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor
  • Urban: 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz

“Pickups are a popular choice for many practical reasons, but the cultural and social influence of pickup trucks in America shouldn’t be underestimated – there’s a certain cachet that comes with being a pickup truck owner,” Bragman contiuned. “But trucks come at a steep price.”

  11. One thing about this article that is true that it is “cool” to have a pickup. Americans are infatuated with pickups. My guess is 70-80 % of drivers don’t use them as a pickup is intended. But it’s great that people love them. With there high markups the manufactures can keep making the millions everyone is loving.

    1. I think that 90% of people only use them as trucks 10% of the time.

But, if they are efficient (3.0 I6 Duramax) and comfortable, then what is the problem?

  12. Since switching from driving SUV’s to trucks, I have been receiving compliments. I have had several people comment on the color, the trim level etc. Usually it is from other truck owners. Truck owners love to compliment other truck owners!
