Last month, GM Authority exclusively announced that the all-new Aveo will arrive in Chile as the next-generation Chevy Sail, and now, we’ve learned that the model is ready for its official launch in the South American country.
General Motors’ subsidiary in Chile confirmed to La Tercera the imminent launch of the next-generation 2024 Chevy Sail in the local market, announcing that they hope to close this year with the redesigned entry-level vehicle within Chevrolet’s model portfolio. As such, the statements officially confirm information previously provided by our sources that the next Sail will be launched before the end of the year in the Chilean market.
“We will have product news soon. We seek to close this year with the best-selling passenger car in Chile,” said GM Chile in a statement to the local media. “The Sail’s virtues are in line with the characteristics for which more than 110,000 Chileans have chosen it, making it the undisputed leader in this segment: good price-quality ratio, good fuel efficiency, and always prioritizing safety elements,” added the company.
In fact, La Tercera reports that the next-generation 2024 Chevy Sail has been in the national territory for at least a couple of months, since the first days of August as it completes the homologation process before the Chilean government institutions. This fundamental and determining step represents the official authorization to market the new vehicle, having complied with all the country’s legislation requirements.
In particular, GM received permission to sell the next-generation 2024 Chevy Sail in Chile with a naturally aspirated 1.5L I4 engine producing a homologated 110 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque, mated to a manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic. This output is higher than the Mexican-market Aveo’s 98 horsepower with the same powertrain, possibly due to the differences in topography.
The next-generation 2024 Chevy Sail will launch over the next few weeks in Chile, which boasts South America’s fastest-growing automotive market and represents the nameplate’s primary volume center. Initially, the 2024 Sail will arrive in the Chilean market from China exclusively with the four-door sedan body, while the five-door hatchback version will be added during the next calendar year.
