Riley Herbst and the No. 98 NASCAR Ford Mustang finished almost 15 seconds ahead of the Xfinity Series field at Las Vegas on October 14th, 2023, leading a Toyota and a trio of NASCAR Chevy teams across the line – something The Bow Tie competitors weren’t overly thrilled about.
Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 7 Chevy Camaro, thought he had a car good enough to win the race, but just couldn’t muscle his way to the front of the field when it mattered.
“I’m really disappointed,”Allgaier said after the race. “Obviously, a great points day and the guys did a great job. We got behind at the beginning and hard to get it back. … Proud of the effort all day. Hats off to Riley [Herbst], that was a demonstration right there.”
Chandler Smith’s No. 16 Camaro was the highest-finishing NASCAR Chevy team, bringing it home in fourth. Sam Mayer’s No. 1 Camaro finished fifth, just ahead of Allgaier. As it stands right now, Smith is out of the Playoffs and will not be able to compete in the Championship 4 in three weeks. Meanwhile, Sheldon Creed, driver of the No. 2 Camaro, finished 15th at Vegas, and he’s got a lot of ground to cover if he wants to avoid elimination from the Playoffs, as he’s currently in eighth place, 41 points below the cutoff.
