Pacific Performance Engineering or PPE now offers a high-capacity air-to-water intercooler kit to boost the efficiency of the 2020-2023 GM 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, along with its successor, the 3.0L I6 LZ0 Duramax.
Applications for the PPE Duramax intercooler kit include SUVs and pickup trucks from the Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac brands.
The PPE intercooler is 77 percent less restrictive than the OEM intercooler equipped on LM2 and LZ0 Duramax engines, increasing airflow and cooling capacity for cooler and more efficient operation. The extra cooling can potentially also increase engine longevity by reducing thermal stress on components, fluids, and other powerplant elements.
Handling a much larger air charge is made possible by the dimensions of the PPE intercooler core, which has 2.4 times more volume than the stock intercooler supporting the GM Duramax engine. Cast aluminum end tanks and flow optimization in the intercooler’s design also increase cooling and airflow volume.
The air charge in the PPE intercooler is up to 30 degrees cooler than that provided by the OEM component. Cool air is denser than hot air, so the air charge delivers much more oxygen to the engine to boost efficiency. The part also cuts down on backpressure in the inlet and lowers exhaust gas temperature (EGT) to increase efficiency of engine operation further.
The PPE intercooler is engineered to function with both LM2 and LZ0 Duramax engines from the 2020 through 2023 model years. The GM nameplates the intercooler will fit include the Chevy Silverado 1500, Chevy Suburban, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade.
PPE used all-aluminum construction for its Duramax intercooler kit, providing both lighter weight and higher heat conductivity for faster cooling than a steel component would offer. Cooling is boosted even more by a precisely designed fin layout and bar-and-plate construction. The kit also comes with a billet aluminum turbo adapter, high-performance silicone coolant hoses and couplers, and a die-cast mounting bracket.
PPE offers the Duramax intercooler kit in several different colors to give a snazzy, customized look to the vehicle engine bay when installed. The currently available colors include raw aluminum, brushed aluminum, blue, black, and red. The intercooler is 50-state emissions legal and is currently priced at just under $1,600.

Yea I don’t think this is proven to add MPGs. So saying “increased engine efficiency” is a bit deceiving
So now gm authority is an advertising platform as well? What is impact on warranty?
Sometimes more isn’t always better. If the stock cooler brings the air charge down to within 40 degrees of the water it’s not like 77% extra cooling capacity will make that much better.
How about this, delete that turbo and Whipple it. Ever heard of Banks Power Lockjaw??? Way more power, and less fuel consumption while doing it.
The same as any aftermarket modification. If it messes up something, GM isn’t covering it as long as they explain why the mod is to blame.
I would not risk the 100k mile engine warranty for this. No way.
Thank you GM Authority for keeping us informed with new and interesting trends. Kenny Bell had a huge impact on the Buick T-Type Turbo V6 scene. It’s great to know another company is working hard to engineer products for todays popular vehicles.
FOR ANYONE WHP TOWS A TRAILER PVER 2,500 POUNDS, THEY SHOULD DO WHAT GM HAS RECOMENDED FOR YEARS
USE A BETTER GRADE OF OIL. IN FACT FORGET NORMAL OIL JUST SWITCH TO A FULL 100 PERCENT SYNTHETIC 5W30 OR 10W30, INSTEAD OF A LESS CAPABLE LUBRICANT, SUCH AS NORMAL 5W20.
IN A HOTTER THAN NORMAL AREA SUCH AS FLORIDA OR ARIZONA, IF YOUR DIESEL OR GAS ENGINE HAS A HIGH OIL
CONSUMPTION ISSUE, THE SWITCH TO A FULL SYNTHETIC WILL GREATLY REDUCE OIL USE. SO WILL SWITCHING TO
A MORE CAPABLE GRADE. IF YOU PULL A VERY HEAVY TRAILER, USE A DIESEL GRADE 15W40 FULL SYNTHETIC AND
YOU WILL ALSO NOTICE THAT YOUR AIR CONDITIONER WILL OPERATE BETTER BECAUSE OF THE LOWER TEMPS UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER MANAGING FLEETS OF LIGHT COMMERCIAL VEHICLES FOR OVER 30 YEARS, THAT HAVE RUN 25 MILLION MILES, THESE TIPS HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO WORK BEST.
I am using liquid moly for my diesel car its a best oil for my application or spec
Put 10W-30 in the 3.0 Duramax and you will void the warranty and destroy the engine. Its rated up to 5W-30 in extreme towing.
YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NORMAL OIL AND A FULL SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL.
THERE IS NO SEPERATE API TEST FOR A 100 PERCENT SYNTHETIC OF THE SAME 5W20 OR 5W30.
READ THE TEST PROCEDURE FOR GM DYNO TESTS. THEY ALL USE A FULL SYNTHETIC TO GET THE HP AND TORQUE RATINGS. IF YOU PULL A TRAILER OF 8,000 POUNDS OR MORE, AND YOU DON’T USE A FULL SYNTHETIC, IN THE HOTTEST COUPLE OF MONTHS IN THE SUMMER AND PULLING UP A MOUNTAIN, YOU WILL PROBABLY COOK YOUR TRANSMISSION. I WAS NOMINATED TO BE A MEMBER OF THE SAE IN 1980 BY THE VP OF THE SAE AND SECONDED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE SAE FOR MY EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF SYNTHETIC LUBES. THE GM DEALER DOING ANY WARRANTY WORK, WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DETECT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 5W20 AND A 10W30 BECAUSE AT COLD STARTING TEMPS, THE 10W30 FULL SYNTHETIC WILL OUTPERFORM THE 5W20.
AND YOU?? .
PRICEY Just put a 160 degree thermostat in it, if you want it to run cooler. GM would but they can’t.
Sorry if I am a little confused, but why can’t they?
Will this void warranty
Does that void my hundred thousand mile warranty? as well as the extended warranty that I purchase from GM? If so, that’s not a good deal.🤷♂️
Gee what a deal only $1600.00 LOL 🙂
DON’T even think of buying this PPE intercooler called the company and the person on the phone could not even tell me where it was made and he told me even if he even if he knew ne wouldn’t tell me,
I seem to recall PPE’s gas turbo systems got huge complaints. From China for sure.
