Looking over the numbers, we see that the maximum weight a 2024 Silverado can tow is 13,300 pounds with a ball hitch and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine. Meanwhile, the maximum tow weight with a 5th wheel or gooseneck hitch is 10,300 pounds, achieved with the 5.3L V8 L84. Notably, the Max Trailering Package (RPO code NHT) is also required to reach these numbers.
When compared to 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 towing capacities, we see that ball hitch capacities have gone up around 100 pounds on some configurations. For 5th wheel and gooseneck hitches, it’s much of the same.
As a reminder, production of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Silao plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada. The Silverado rides in the GM T1 platform, which it shares with its corporate platform-mate, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500.

Gooseneck or 5th wheel on a 1500. Spooky. No safety net of payload once you hook a trailer. I’ve seen them before around my area too, bumper dragging on the ground.
Anywho…That L3B Turbomax going about punch for punch with the 5.3. I drive a refresh 2022 with the 2.7 HO (Turbomax now) and it tows better than my 2018 5.3 I had before it for sure. 6000lbs of trailer and a Mercury Mariner on said trailer and it did a great job doing it. And actually, for towing I’d be between the 2.7 Turbomax or the 3.0 Duramax and skip the 5.3.
