Two months after SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) revealed the first images of Wuling’s new all-electric sedan, the upcoming Wuling Starlight has just officially debuted in China.
General Motors’ second joint venture in China officially presented the upcoming Wuling Starlight sedan during a special introduction ceremony on October 25th, showing the vehicle and all its features to the Chinese press for the first time. At the event, SGMW confirmed that the Wuling Starlight will be available with two distinctive powertrain configurations, including a plug-in hybrid and a fully electric variant.
Notably, the upcoming Wuling Starlight is the first sedan-bodied vehicle in the history of SGMW’s flagship brand – traditionally specializing in minibuses and commercial vehicles. As such, the Wuling Starlight further reinforces Wuling’s new product strategy to extend its leadership into the passenger vehicle market and debuts in the sedan segment directly with a new energy vehicle (NEV).
Based on a new modular platform for electrified vehicles from the joint venture, the upcoming Wuling Starlight is a midsize sedan that opens a new chapter in the brand’s history by becoming the largest vehicle in its electric vehicle portfolio. In addition, the Starlight debuts a new design language and a modern interior with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital driver instrument cluster.
In fact, the Wuling Starlight stands out for offering a cabin with ample space for five occupants and a generous 540 liters or 19.1 cubic feet of trunk volume, ideal for comfortably transporting all members of a family. It also introduces a unique seating configuration, in which the front seatbacks can be folded backwards and connect flush with the rear-seat cushions to form a recliner.
The upcoming Wuling Starlight will be officially launched in the Chinese market during the month of November, when the PHEV variant is scheduled to go on sale, while the all-electric version will be launched in early 2024. The PHEV version comes equipped with a 1.5L gasoline engine and an electric motor generating a combined 78 kW or 105 horsepower, while its zero-emission counterpart includes an electric motor with an output of 100 kW or 134 horsepower.

Nice looking car!
Reminds me of the ’24 Buick Invista.
Nice lines outside, but that Ipad-velcroed-to-the-dash look seems dated to me compared to the knockout GM dashboards in the 2025 CT5 or 2024 XT4.
Yeah I agree I hate that TV bolted to the dash. I don’t need or want any of that.
Totally agree, the Digital gauges-information displays seem like an after thought. Otherwise, it’s a nice vehicle. Hopefully it finds its way to North America, as a Malibu, as was already suggested in the comments.
The next Malibu… maybe.
Side windows scream “Malibu”. Speaking of which, what the heck happened to that? Supposedly a new one was coming.
In China and nothing, is exactly the same.
nice sedan, innovative ideas, and a big trunk….and we get another ugly suv…wow
At least the Chinese consumers can have a hybrid powertrain.
dimensions (L/W/H) 4835/1860/1515mm
weight : 1,600 kg (BEV) & 1,685 kg (PHEV)
LFP battery.
I * love * the exterior, but the interior is a little too sterile for my tastes. Still a very lovely car.
Probably will be sold in global South as a Chevy. Neat seat configuration! US needs a Civic rival. Sedans are far from dead
Who needs the UAW when we can have the CCP.
I agree with almost all the comments above. I think they look very nice and although I would like them to assemble them in the US for the US market, I’d love to see this as the US Malibu! Give us a PHEV and EV both please.
Although I like the EV’s and have the Bolt, I would certainly prefer this look and if I had the option, I’d actually take a PHEV. I’m one that still feels GM made a colossal mistake by killing the Volt.
Gm needs to give the US a plug in hybrid, the cruise was really ahead of its time with little advertisement and there wasn’t this environment drumming that the world is doomed. I would buy a plug-in hybrid Colorado or Silverado but range has to be 50 miles or better. Toyota seems not to be able to make enough plug in hybrids, come on gm. Gm China are making them build some in the US
Next Malibu, CT5,Regal Century in the U.S.A.?
I love it👍
