GM’s Upcoming Baojun Yep Plus To Debut Next Year

SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), General Motors’ second joint venture in China, is putting the finishing touches on the upcoming Baojun Yep Plus, an extended five-door variant of the brand’s mini electric crossover that will debut next year in the Asian country.

The upcoming Baojun Yep Plus will be a five-door variant of the three-door Yep electric crossover, shown here.

The automaker has just confirmed the development of the upcoming Baojun Yep Plus as a five-door, extended-body version of the small zero-emission utility vehicle, which made its global debut earlier this year in China. This was reported exclusively over the weekend by the General Director of the SAIC-GM-Wuling Brand Division, Zhou Jinkai, through a post on his account on his Weibo social network account.

SGMW’s top executive came forward to address the rumors and officially confirmed the existence of the upcoming Baojun Yep Plus, revealing that the vehicle will be launched in early 2024. “The five-door version of the Baojun Yep Plus has an urban hardcore style. Its appearance is very good-looking and its competitiveness is very strong! To sum it up in one sentence, it’s so powerful! It will be launched in the first quarter of next year,” said Zhou Jinkai.

Notably, the upcoming Baojun Yep Plus will expand the quirky mini EV crossover range in the Chinese market and represents the third body style that has been announced for Baojun’s all-electric nameplate, following the regular three-door model and the upcoming Baojun Yep EV mini pickup revealed in May. In fact, the strategy will turn the Yep EV into a new family of zero-emission utility vehicles with an adventurous character.

Although no official image of the future vehicle has yet been revealed, it is known that the upcoming Baojun Yep Plus will maintain the same striking, characteristic design of the existing model, but adapted to a longer body. As such, the Yep Plus will have an extended wheelbase that will increase rear-seat and cargo space.

The upcoming Baojun Yep Plus will officially debut in China in the next months and will be launched in the local market in early 2024, when it is scheduled to begin mass production and arrive in dealerships during the first quarter. In addition to the extended five-door body and increased interior space, the new Yep Plus will also introduce powertrain tweaks with a larger battery pack that will enhance driving range.

  1. GM is sleeping with the enemy and I’m getting sick of it. Between Mary Barra, their communist workforce who are perpetually on strike, constraints on everything, their dealer network being complete scum, their worthless, joyriding service departments and making cars called the Neepum Dooki Extra Bang Bang – I think I’ve had just about enough of this company.

    2. This car is a JV for China. It is not coming to America. Doubt it would pass safety checks. So why care if a JV creates a new car for a foreign market? I just don’t get it. GM will get some of the profit. What’s not to like?

    1. Remember this one from VM:
Farfegnugen (also known as fahrvergnugen, fahrvergnuegen) is a term that was introduced to the English language based on the German word “Fahrvergnügen”, which generally means “driving pleasure”.

  3. Tired of seeing GM in bed with China. Wake up everyone, pretty soon companies won’t care about American consumers. China is a bigger market. Look at how apple shares their US sales numbers and China now. Honestly it’s disgusting how every America company is now a sell out for the all mighty dollar. No pride for one’s country or workmanship.
