The Cadillac Lyriq is the luxury marque’s very first all-electric production vehicle, offering sharp styling, the latest GM electric vehicle technology, and plenty of Caddy-style comfort in the cabin. Notably, GM is aiming to expand its business in the European market next year, and the Cadillac Lyriq will help to lead the charge. That said, the Euro-spec Cadillac Lyriq isn’t any more powerful than its North American equivalent, despite possible confusion to the contrary.
For those readers still catching up, Cadillac Europe recently announced that the Cadillac Lyriq would be making its way to The Old Continent next year, with the all-electric crossover initially selling in Switzerland, followed by Sweden, and then France. The Euro-spec Lyriq will be available exclusively with the two-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain, the output of which comes to 528 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. With that in mind, eagle-eyed readers will no doubt point out that the Euro-spec Lyriq has a horsepower rating that’s 28 ponies higher than that of its North American equivalent (500 horsepower).
Which begs the question – is the European Cadillac Lyriq more powerful than the Lyriq sold in North America? To clarify, GM Authority reached out to Cadillac Europe, and according to a Cadillac Europe representative, there’s actually no difference in the power between the Euro-spec model and North American model.
“The power units [in the European models] are the same as the U.S. vehicles,” a Cadillac Europe spokesperson told GM Authority. “There are some nuanced differences between the U.S. and EU when it comes to the procedure used to measure engine power, which has resulted in this discrepancy.”
Per comments from GM CEO Mary Barra made last year, GM’s all-electric transition presents an opportunity for the automaker to grow and reenter the European market. GM largely exited the European market in 2017 after selling the Opel and Vauxhall brands to Groupe PSA, and currently maintains a very small presence in the region via the Cadillac brand and Chevy Corvette.

Lyric, just another nail in the coffin.
Unimpressive in person and on the street.
Once “The Standard of the World”
Now a hollow shell of their former selves.
Many feel the Lyriq is beautiful with a very comfortable and quiet interior. I have test driven the Lyriq and was impressed with the responsiveness. The torque is fun and the handling very nice. It feels much more luxurious than the Tesla Model Y. Super Cruise is superior to Tesla’s AutoPilot.
FUN FACT: In North America, Lyriq buyers have a choice of 20” or 22” wheels, depending on trim. In Europe, all Lyriqs are equipped with Nappa leather seats and 21” wheels. Euro spec vehicles also will get adaptive headlights, which have been deleted from the North American version.
