GM has issued a safety recall for 2023 and 2024 model-year Chevy Low Cab Forward trucks related to a manufacturing error in the two externally mounted ignition coil pack fuse holders equipped on each truck, which can potentially cause multiple issues.
The problem:Â the defect affecting Chevy Low Cab Forward trucks is found only on units equipped with the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine. These units may be fitted with incorrectly sized wire seals on the external fuse holders which potentially allow water to leak inside.
The hazards:Â if water leaks through the wire seals it may corrode or destroy the fuses inside. Fuse failure can cause misfiring, slowed acceleration, and activation of the Check Engine light; the truck self-limiting its top speed to 5 mph; and/or difficulty in restarting or stalls during starting. All of these possible problems can increase risk of a crash.
The fix:Â GM instructs dealers to apply sealant to the incorrect fuse holder seals. Only medium-duty truck dealers are authorized to carry out this remedy. Potentially affected Chevy Low Cab Forward trucks should be held in inventory and not sold, traded to other dealerships, or used in demonstrations until the fix is applied if needed.
Dealers should verify unit involvement via the GM Global Warranty Management System, checking to see if the truck is marked “Open” the Investigate Vehicle History screen before applying the fix.
Affected components:Â External ignition fuse holder.
Number of affected vehicles: The number of affected 2023 and 2024 Chevy Low Cab Forward trucks is currently unavailable.
Owners should:Â owners of affected 2023 and 2024 Chevy Low Cab Forward units who have additional questions or concerns can call Chevrolet customer service at the toll-free number supplied below, referencing the recall number as needed:
