About Chevy Express
The 2023 Chevy Express represented the 20th model year of the nameplate. For the 2023 model year, the Express and the GMC Savana, its corporate twin, continued with minimal changes, although both dropped the optional 2.8L I4 LWN turbo-diesel Duramax engine.
The 2024 Chevy Express arrives with two new transmissions being the only changes for the Passenger Van, Cargo Van and Cutaway configurations. However, the 2024 Chevy Express cargo van drops the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, with the atmospheric 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine the only remaining powerplant offered on that model. Additionally, 2024 Chevy Express infotainment system upgrades are no longer available, leaving the 2024 Express with only a single infotainment option, namely the base audio system consisting of the AM/FM stereo with MP3 player. That system includes an auxiliary jack and two front-door speakers.
Pricing for the 2024 Chevy Express shows significant increases, ranging from $1,600 to $2,900 (including cargo, passenger, and cutaway models). The destination freight charge also increases by $100 to $1,875.
While the Express and Savana were thought to be discontinued after the 2025 model year, GM now plans to redesign the Chevy Express for the 2027 model year, keeping the ICE powertrain.

It’s October, who cares about September incentives now?
Vince Brown, Please find out why no more V-8 engine option? I don’t understand why they would do that. That is tremendously limiting its ability and sales.
Usually, when an automaker removes an engine or other options previously available, the main reason is because it’s no longer selling enough vehicles with that option for it to make financial sense for the company to keep building.
Its main competitors (Ford Transit, Ram Promaster) don’t offer anything larger than a V6 in their lineups for the exact same reason. Not enough demand.
So, GM discontinuing the V8 on these vans isn’t going to drive people to the other brands for their V8s because there are none.
Not in this case. Their vans were derived from vans designed and marked overseas. They were never built with V-8’s because of the cost of fuel over there. Anybody who still wanted a strong old-fashioned American-designed van buys the Express and Savana. A lot of guys I know in the trades do not like the newer European-designed vans. I understand what you mean when manufacturers are not selling a lot of something they delete that option or model. For everything their vans are used for I have a very hard time believing that they were not selling enough of them. My guess is that they can’t build enough engines to go around so they cut out the red-headed stepchilds the Express and Savana. Very sad GM. The removal of the diesel option was bad enough but now this, incredible.
A lot of assumptions on GM’s reasoning for deleting the option.
As for the people you know in the trades, they may not like the newer Euro-vans but the numbers don’t lie:
For Q1 of this year, the Transit sold over 32,000 units. The ProMaster sold over 17,000. Both the Express and Savana sold over 13,000 combined and that’s with the V8 sales.
I bought used with the 6.0L and the 6 speed auto because I didn’t want the 8 speed auto (class action lawsuit) and the 6.0L runs on E85 flex fuel which is $1.20 cheaper than diesel here and .70 cheaper than E10.
Even though I don’t get the mileage I got with the diesel I save about $50 every 1000 miles and the express meets my towing needs.
I specifically looked for a low mileage flex fuel V8.
A lot of down payments were placed in 2022/2023 for V8 Chevy express at dealers by individuals, and the orders not filled by GMC plant. For Q1 the 13000 units sold of express/ savanna wonder how many were V8 and where were they delivered to,
