The GM Authority Take

After experiencing contractions during July and August, the drop in Chevrolet Korea sales during September was even more significant, representing the highest rate of downward change in sales volume so far this year. As such, Chevrolet ended the third quarter of 2023 in the red in the South Korean market, following a negative streak spanning three consecutive months.

The loss during September was driven by lower sales volumes of most models offered by Chevrolet in South Korea, along with a further drop in monthly volume for the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax. In fact, this is the third significant month-over-month reduction in sales volume suffered by the brand’s entry-level crossover SUV, while the 1,424 deliveries posted in September is the lowest monthly figure since the launch of the second-generation Trax in South Korea.

In addition to the significant contractions posted by discontinued models, which was to be expected, the Chevy Trailblazer suffered one of the highest declines so far this year. Additionally, Chevy’s entire line of vehicles imported into South Korea recorded drastic drops in September. The combination of these factors resulted in a deepening of the Bow Tie brand’s poor performance in the local South Korean market.
