Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Chevy Corvette sales continued to dominate the segment during the third quarter of 2023 when ranked by sales volume, as it has for over a dozen years now since we started tracking Corvette sales. This time around, the Corvette led with a six percent bump in sales to 8,409 units. Porsche’s two entries placed second and third – the 911 (née Carrera/Targa) with a 35 percent bump to 3,010 units, just over a third of the Corvette’s deliveries, and the 718 (née Cayman/Boxster) with an 84 percent jump to 1,253 units. The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class – now an AMG product – followed in fourth with a two percent slip to 802 deliveries, while the Lexus LC took fifth with a 216 percent leap to 506 units. The second Mercedes-Benz entry, the AMG GT, followed in sixth with an 11 percent dip to 458 units. The rest of field accounted for less than 600 deliveries combined.
Many of the segment contenders cost significantly more than Chevy’s mid-engine sports car and, as a result, these higher-priced rivals typically see lower sales volumes. But that price difference is steadily shrinking, especially as pricing for the Corvette Z06 and first-ever Corvette E-Ray start at over $100K.

The GM Authority Take
While C8 Corvette continues to dominate its segment as the mid-engine Vette enters its fifth model year, sales this quarter would have been even higher if it weren’t for GM being limited in how many Corvettes it can build.
But competitors are not sitting still, with Mercedes-Benz recently debuting the second-generation 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe while GM’s two cross-town rivals each introduced an all-new model. Stellantis unveiled the 2024 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale as a limited-edition supercar from its Italian luxury brand and the Blue Oval launched the Ford Mustang GTD as a high-priced, track-focused Corvette rival.
That last one is an interesting development since the Mustang nameplate has traditionally competed with the Chevy Camaro muscle car, as with the all-new seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang. Now the Mustang GTD is taking on the Vette.
Furthermore, when asked why Ford doesn’t offer a competitor to GM’s halo vehicle, Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. said the Blue Oval doesn’t need a Corvette rival.
“Why are you not building a sports car similar to Corvette?” Ford Jr. was quoted as saying. “Are you kidding? We have the Mustang, which I think is by far the best sports car in America and, frankly, the world now. It’s affordable. It’s faster than all get out. And it’s about as good as you could possibly get. And we’re going racing with Mustang. For the enthusiasts, we have an EcoBoost Mustang, we now have an electric Mustang in the Mach-E, and we have our all-new five-liter Mustang Dark Horse, which we just introduced. And we have more coming. So, I wouldn’t trade our sports car for anybody else’s, let’s put it that way.”
About Corvette
The 2024 Chevy Corvette is offered in three variants – the C8 Stingray, C8 Z06, and first-ever C8 E-Ray. The 2024 model year adds new active safety tech to the model’s features list, including Automatic Emergency Braking and standard IntelliBeam automatic high-beam headlamps as well as Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning. The 2024 Corvette also gets new driver mode selection animations.
Additionally, the 2024 Corvette Stingray drops two alloy wheel choices, replacing them with new designs.

Finally, the 2024 Corvette gets a new Edge Red painted rear fascia script LPO-level option.
At the beginning of the year, GM debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray, featuring the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 engine from the Stingray mated to an electric motor mounted at the front axle. The E-Ray is also the first-ever production Corvette equipped with front-wheel drive as well as all-wheel-drive traction.
That combination also makes makes the E-Ray the fastest Corvette ever, with a 0-to-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than the Z06. Meanwhile, the Corvette Z06 features the 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine, a race-bred, naturally aspirated, dual-overhead cam, flat-plane crank powerplant.
The Corvette E-Ray Among NACTOY’s “Best of 2024” list, being among the 25 vehicles advancing to the finalist round of the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards.
Per exclusive GM Authority reporting, production of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray kicks off on October 23rd.
According to a J.D. Power Study, the Chevy Corvette has a great multimedia system. But the 2025 Corvette C8 refresh will bring noteworthy changes to interior, with the biggest change expected to be the deletion of the HVAC controls found along the large center divider between the two seats.
Once Z06 production is higher than the current, highly-constrained levels, and the E-Ray has finally launched, Chevy will launch the 2025 Corvette C8 ZR1. It’s expected to be powered by the LT7 engine, a boosted variant of the 5.5 V8 LT6 engine found in the Z06, raising raise the performance bar even higher. Our spies recently spotted a 2025 Corvette ZR1 prototype testing on the Nurburgring, revealing differences between the ZR1 and Z06 with the Z07 package, as well as sporting a new wheel design.
GM’s biggest challenge with “America’s sport car” is production, providing enough inventory supply to meet sales demand for Chevy’s popular mid-engine marvel – especially as the automaker continues to add variants to create the nameplate’s most diverse lineup ever.
