The GM Authority Take

The steep drop in Chevrolet Colombia sales in September further deepens the brand’s negative performance in the South American country, where it systematically continues to lose market share. The September results represent the 11th consecutive monthly decline for Chevy in Colombia, causing the marque to once again drop to third among the country’s best-selling automobile brands, with a high risk of continuing the decline.

As was the case in recent months, the Chevy Onix suffered the most significant drop in September, seeing a significant reduction of 1,254 units on a year-over-year basis. Chevrolet has failed to end the subcompact car’s drop, much less recover volume, despite beginning to locally manufacture the entry-level Joy variant earlier this year. The NHR, along with the entire N-Series truck line and the Chevy Colorado, round out the list of the month’s worst-performing models.

For some positive news, the Chevy Tracker once again stood out by posting an increase that enables it to position itself as the second best-selling nameplate for Chevrolet Colombia in September. The small crossover was able to record the slight improvement thanks to the recovery of inventory levels in the local market, which is now supplied from the GM Alvear plan in Argentina. The Chevy Tahoe, Traverse, and Beat also posted modest improvements for the month, though their respective volumes were quite low.
