Out of the 11 manufacturers represented in this space of 23 entries, eight field multiple models, though automakers that field single models sometimes outsell them. Here is the overall rank of automakers, in order:

  • Hyundai-Kia – 23 percent segment share (four models)
  • Stellantis – 17 percent share (three models)
  • GM – 13 percent share (three models)
  • Ford – 12 percent share (two models)
  • Toyota – 8 percent share (three models)

  • VW – 5 percent share (one model)
  • Nissan – 4 percent share (two models)
  • Subaru – 3 percent share (one model)
  • Mazda – 3 percent share (two models)
  • Mitsubishi – 2 percent share (one model)

The midsize and full-size mainstream crossover segment, comprised of crossovers with a starting price in the vicinity of $30K, grew six percent to 457,629 units during Q3 2023, meaning Blazer sales underperformed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

We attribute the drop in Chevy Blazer sales during the third quarter of 2023 to low inventory of the midsize model. In fact, Blazer new-vehicle supply was at just 15 days in June nationwide, slightly improving to 19 days in July and 20 days in early August, while continuing to rise to 29 days in September. But that’s still less than half the 60-day supply that is considered optimal in the U.S. auto industry by many organizations that specialize in automotive sales operations, including the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA). That means a 60-day inventory level gives dealerships enough inventory on hand to sustain sales volume for roughly the next 60 days, or nearly two months.

Despite the low inventory levels, GM still placed a decent third in the midsize and full-size mainstream crossover segment, earning 13 percent share when combining sales of the Chevy Blazer and Traverse along with those of the GMC Acadia. The all-new, next-generation 2024 Chevy Traverse and 2024 GMC Acadia should positively contribute to this result once their launches are fully underway.

About Chevy Blazer

The Blazer received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2023 model year, bringing revised front and rear fascias, different LED headlights and taillights, and a larger infotainment display.

In December, Consumer Reports gave the 2023 Chevy Blazer a “recommended” rating, while also recognizing the 2023 Chevy Blazer as a quiet vehicle this past summer. Also, the Chevy Blazer was noted for having top-quality seats by data analytics firm J.D. Power.

The 2024 Chevy Blazer arrives with a few changes and updates including standard heated front seats across the lineup along with a new paint color complimented by five interior colorways.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV spotted charging

In July 2022 the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV made its official debut, ushering in the Bow Tie’s mass-market electric crossover. Headlined by a maximum GM-estimated range of 320 miles from a full charge, the Chevy Blazer EV will be available in front-, rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, while the trim level lineup will include 1LT, 2LT, RS, and Blazer EV SS, along with a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for law enforcement, making it the quickest police package ever offered by Chevy.

The Bow Tie brand is even bringing back a Super Sport model with the first-ever 2024 Chevy Blazer EV SS. A standard performance AWD propulsion configuration delivers up to 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque in the crossover, enabling a zero to 60 mph time of under four seconds in the Wide Open Watts (WOW) acceleration setting. Additional performance-focused features include a specific sport-tuned chassis and Brembo front brakes.

Most recently, we’ve caught the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV RS in in Radiant Red Tintcoat and even spotted a Blazer EV charging. Last month, GM told Blazer EV reservation holders that they can now place their orders.

The Chevy Blazer EV is among NACTOY’s “Best of 2024” list, being among the 25 vehicles advancing to the finalist round of the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards and one of 10 semifinalists for 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV SS

Now that the Blazer EV is beginning to go on sale, we are apt to wonder whether the internal combustion Chevy Blazer has a future. All indicators point to the 2025 being its last model year.

Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing how the Blazer EV performs from a sales volume standpoint, and the impact on the market of the coveted high-performance Blazer SS model. While GM is improving supply, perhaps sales of the popular internal combustion-powered Blazer crossover will gain traction till the all-electric model begins to sell in volume.
