Cadillac To Continue In WEC Series With Single V-Series.R Hypercar Next Year

General Motors has confirmed that Cadillac will field just one full-season entry in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the 2024 season, once again running the Cadillac V-Series.R Hypercar. GM is now wrapping up the 2023 WEC season with a single Cadillac V-Series.R Hypercar, and although the automaker was reportedly considering expanding its WEC efforts to include a second entry, it now looks like the decision has been made to head into 2024 with a single entry.

As reported by Sportscar 365, which cites an interview with GM motorsports competition engineering director Mark Stielow, the price tag was the main factor in deciding to go with a single entry for the 2024 WEC season.

“It was a cost barrier,” Stielow said. “At the end of the day, and I’m sure all my colleagues would agree, we all have to go to our boards of directors and get our budgets approved.”

“General Motors and Chevy and Cadillac are fighting in a lot of areas so we have to balance out and keep all of our children happy and clothed,” he added. “You have to make tough decisions sometimes.”

The majority of the other Hypercar teams run two entries in WEC, including Ferrari, Peugeot, Porsche, and Toyota. Stielow conceded that although two entries were “definitely better” than one, the cost of running another entry was simply too high.

Cadillac managed to put three top-five finishes on the board with their first three races, as well as grab a podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. There is currently one race left in the 2023 season, specifically Bahrain, with the Cadillac team sitting in fourth in the Team Hypercar championship. The driver lineup currently includes Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn, and Richard Westbrook, with the team sitting in fifth in the driver’s championship.

  2. If you can’t afford two cars in WEC, how in the world are you going to compete In Formula One with Andretti? I guess you can fight Haas for the final qualifying spots each race while Ford goes for championships with Red Bull each year!
