The GM Authority Take

Buick Envision sales fell to fourth place, within about 600 deliveries of third, during the third quarter of 2023, down from the second-place showing it’s had over the course of the past year. We have heard that Envision inventory was not at optimal levels during the quarter, though some dealers did cite product as the primary reason for the unimpressive sales. Perhaps the forthcoming refreshed 2024 model will help the small premium crossover regain its sales footing when it hits dealerships at the beginning of the New Year.

Despite the Envision’s lack of a higher place finish, combined sales of the Envision with those of the Cadillac XT4 placed GM in second in the segment to account for nearly a fifth of all deliveries.

About Buick Envision

The 2023 Buick Envision represents the third model year of the crossover’s second generation. It remains largely unchanged from the 2022 Buick Envision save for a few updates to the color palette and equipment, including new standard equipment added to the Avenir trim level.

In North America, the Envision continues to be powered solely by GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel-drive standard and all-wheel-drive optional.

In December Consumer Reports named Buick Envision among the best vehicles to fit three child car seats, and in January it gave the 2023 Buick Envision a “recommended” rating.

Refreshed 2024 Buick Envision in the range-topping Avenir trim

The 2024 Buick Envision will introduce a mid-cycle refresh to include updated styling and a revised interior. GM recently released the first official images of the refreshed 2024 Envision, showing off the exterior and interior of the updated model. Images of the front fascia show the brand’s Pure Design language and the new corporate fascia utilized on its newest models, namely the first-ever 2024 Buick Envista and refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX.

The automaker also revealed that the refreshed 2024 Buick Envision will offer the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance feature for the first-time ever on the nameplate and a first for a Buick model in North America. Additionally, the 2024 Envision offers many new standard safety features. Beyond that, the 2024 Envision loses two paint colors, Rich Garnet Metallic and Sapphire Metallic; these are replaced by Calypso Blue Metallic and Smokey Amethyst Metallic.

Also new for the first time ever, the 2024 Buick Envision will offer standard all-wheel-drive in the U.S. via a twin-clutch AWD system. For reference, all trim levels of the 2023 Envision – which included Preferred, Essence, and Avenir – were all configured as front-wheel-drive units, with AWD being an option. The aforementioned LSY turbocharged engine will remain the sole powertrain available on the 2024 Envision.

Production of the refreshed 2024 Envision has been pushed back to December 11th. According to GM Authority sources, dealers were able to start ordering the 2024 Buick Envision during the week of September 28th.
