Benchmark 1967 Chevy Corvette Headed To Mecum Kissimmee

The C2 Chevy Corvette, AKA the Mid Years, were built from 1963 to 1967. The Mid Years were a revolution in design compared to the first-generation Corvettes, with engineering and power that would allow the new Sting Ray to challenge anything Europe had to offer. For the first time, the Corvette was available as either a convertible or a coupe, had an independent rear suspension with a transverse leaf spring, available air conditioning, leather seats, and power windows. The 1965 model year would see the advent of standard four-wheel disc brakes and a brawny 425-horsepower, 396 cubic-inch Mark IV Big Block V8.

For the final year of its second generation, the 1967 Chevy Corvette would have several styling changes that would result in a cleaner look. The rocker trim was painted black, the trio of large fender gills was replaced by five smaller, forward-slanting strakes, and some of the exterior trim was eliminated. The reverse light that was integrated into the brake lights as part of the Comfort and Convenience package became a standard feature and was moved to above the license plate. The black-painted steel wheels with hubcaps were replaced with five-slot steel wheels with trim rings and center caps as standard equipment. The Kelsey Hayes knockoff wheels were no longer available, but visually similar bolt-on wheels were available. Inside the Corvette, the grab bar above the glove compartment went away, and the seats were redesigned for better comfort. The parking brake, previously located under the dash to the right of the steering wheel, moved to the center console aft of the shifter.

Small Block drivetrain options for the 1967 Chevy Corvette were mostly carried over from the previous year, with the 327 available in 300- or 350-horsepower variants. The 427 cubic-inch Big Block could be had in 390-, 400-, or 435-horsepower configurations, with the 435-horse version fed by either a single Holley four-barrel carb or a trio of two-barrels. Big Block cars came with a contrasting “stinger” hood bulge. Available for the first time was the legendary L88 427, grossly underrated at 430 horsepower. Intended strictly for competition, the L88 option got you a cast-iron block with four-bolt mains, forged internals, aluminum pistons, aluminum heads that cut 70 pounds off of the steel ones, 12.5 to 1 compression, a radical solid-lifter cam, an 850 CFM Holley four-barrel carb, aluminum intake, and a transistorized ignition.

Our feature 1967 Chevy Corvette is one of the best-preserved, most original unrestored 1967 Corvettes extant. Finished in Pearl Silver with a black hood stinger over a black vinyl interior, and is equipped with the numbers-matching 390-horsepower 427 Big Block backed by a four-speed manual gearbox, 3.70 Positraction rear end, Off Road exhaust, Soft Ray tinted glass, AM-FM radio, and Rally wheels. It is the only 1967 Corvette to win the All-Time Preservation Award from the Historic Vehicle Association, and the only 1967 Corvette to have been awarded the Best in Preservation Class at both the Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance and the Greenbrier Concours d’Elegance. It is highly original, with the only non-original parts being the battery, tires, and one of the radiator hoses. This Sting Ray was photographed for the National Corvette Restorers Society 1967 Corvette Judging Manual, and has won an NCRS Top Flight, NCRS Five Star Bowtie Preservation, 2019 Corvette Expo Tri-Power Award, Best Survivor, Best Overall, and President’s Choice Awards, as well as Bloomington Gold, Survivor, and Benchmark certifications.

Included in the sale of this 1967 Chevy Corvette coupe is the original sales invoice from Hauser Chevrolet, original carbon copy of the sales order, purchaser’s receipt, salesman’s business card, window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, unused jack and tools, historical pictures, complete ownership history, owner’s manual with protective plastic sleeve, wheel trim ring instructions, AM-FM radio instructions, radio paper hanging tag, “Welcome to Chevrolet Set” brochure, four original keys, two dealership leather key holders, NCRS Shipping Data Report, letters from previous owners, engine run log, maintenance log, dealer-provided first aid kit, and much more.
