General Motors has offered the GMC Savana since 1996, and with the exception of a few small revisions implemented for the 2003 model year, the full-size van has soldiered on more or less unchanged in the decades since. Unsurprisingly, the 2024 GMC Savana continues this trend without any significant changes over the preceding model year. Now, interested customers can spec the 2024 GMC Savana as they see fit using the official online configurator at GMC’s website.
As was the case previously, the 2024 GMC Savana is available in a multitude of configurations including Passenger Van configurations, Cargo Van configurations, and Cutaway Van configurations, each of which was designed to fill a certain role. Engine options include the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine, rated at 276 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 298 pound-feet of torque at 3,900 rpm, as well as the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, which is rated at 401 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 464 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. However, the V8 engine is no longer available in the cargo configuration.
Engine availability depends on the model and configuration selected. Both engines connect to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with the V6 engine connecting to the MTH eight-speed automatic, and the V8 connecting to the N8X heavy duty eight-speed automatic. The GMC Savana was also previously available with a third engine option, specifically the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax engine, however the diesel was dropped from the lineup with the introduction of the 2023 model year, as GM Authority covered previously.
It’s also worth noting that the 2024 GMC Savana is no longer available to order with the updated infotainment system options, including (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- AM / FM stereo with MP3 player and USB port (U0H)
- SiriusXM Radio (U2K)
- Bluetooth for phone (UPF)
- Wi-Fi Hotspot capable (VV4)
As it stands, the only infotainment feature still offered for the 2024 GMC Savana is the AM/FM stereo with MP3 player (RPO code U0F).

Why look unless you are just dreaming about a new work van that when you load it with your tools and supplies will do nothing but bog when put it to the wood. If you are lucky you will get it by next summer and pay MSRP + 5 large.
I’ve ordered the passenger version simply for the 6.6 liter V8. That is proving to be a great motor for the HD trucks. They can’t make enough of them. I’m hoping that when the strike is over at the Wentzville plant, the grateful workers will be happy to get back to work and build me a black 12 passenger van with the V8. If everything goes smoothly, at 81 years old, it will be a great Christmas present to myself. I love GM V8 vans, have since the 70’s.
Plumbers in mountainous areas won’t be buying GM cargo vans. A V6 won’t get the job done in the mountains.
Guess that means I’ll never own another gm van. Why don’t they test there engines 6 cylinders in Southwest Virginia see how that goes.
The best technology and innovation the UAW as to offer.
I gave up on the GMC Cargo van. No longer interested since they have given up all the options I wanted plus you are not guaranteed to get it. Instead, I just spent money on my Old Ford Diesel and decided to keep it. It has only 130,000 miles on it and 5 people approached me and wanted to buy it.
It has the old 7.3 liter Diesel IDI and they want it. Very reliable, easy to fix and I won’t be buying the newer diesels of any new brands as they are so hard to fix that there is a rumor it the mechanics want $5000 to just look at it if you have trouble.
I heard they put everything into the cylinder heads. The injectors, glow plugs and what not, plus so much pollution controls it not worth getting a diesel anymore. Too bad because I just love diesels.
