GM has issued a safety recall for certain units of the 2023 GMC Yukon and 2023 GMC Yukon XL full-size SUVs over an issue with the rear suspension.
The problem: a supplier provided GM with rear suspension bolts for the rear-suspension outer-camber control arm assembly that may not have been properly heat-treated. These incorrectly heat-treated suspension bolts may weaken during use over time and potentially fracture.
The hazards:Â the incorrectly heat-treated suspension bolts, which may be fitted to either the right or the left side of the affected 2023 GMC Yukon’s and 2023 GMC Yukon XL’s outer-camber control arm, may fracture and misalign the rear wheel, increasing the overall risk of an accident or crash.
The fix: since either or both rear suspension bolts can be affected, GM has instructed dealers to replace both rear suspension outer control arm bolts. The General will pre-ship an initial supply of Rear Suspension Adjust Link Bolts, part number 11603317, to dealerships known to have affected GMC Yukon and Yukon XL units on their lots. This pre-shipment started on September 21st, 2023.
Note: a hold has been placed on all affected 2023 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL units currently in dealer inventory until the appropriate fix has been applied and properly registered with GM. Using a potentially affected Yukon for demonstrations, trading it to another dealership, or selling it is illegal under federal law until it has been properly repaired.
Affected components: rear suspension adjust link bolt.
Affected vehicles:Â
- 2023 GMC Yukon
- 2023 GMC Yukon XL
- 2023 Cadillac Escalade
- 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV
- 2023 Chevy Suburban
- 2023 Chevy Tahoe
Number of affected vehicles: GM believes a total of 223 vehicles are affected. This includes both the Yukon and Yukon XL, along with other full-size GM SUVs of the 2023 model year.
Owners should: the recall notice seems to indicate that no affected GMC Yukon units have actually been delivered to customers at this point, with all units possibly still in dealer inventory. However, any Yukon owner who has one of the affected units and wishes for further information can contact GMC customer service at the telephone below.
