2023 Chevy Colorado Among NACTOY’s ‘Best Of 2024’ List: Video

The 2023 Chevy Colorado has earned a place for itself among the 25 vehicles advancing to the finalist round of the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards, or NACTOY, and was one of the initial ten GM vehicles making up almost a fifth of the original field of 52 models.

Per the latest NACTOY statement, the Chevy Colorado is one five trucks in the Truck of the Year category, and is now a “Best of 2024” model alongside 10 cars and 10 utility vehicles, making it a semifinalist competing for one of three truck finalist slots.

Five trucks were picked to advance to the next stage of the 2024 North American Truck of the Year competition. The Chevy Colorado is one of three GM vehicles making up the majority of “The Best of 2024” trucks, the other two being the Chevy Silverado EV and the GMC Canyon. These GM trucks are pitted against a duo from GM’s cross-town rival, Ford – the Ranger and the Super Duty.

The jurors narrowing the original 52 vehicles to 25 are all independent journalists from across the USA and Canada. NACTOY uses these independent automotive reporters in order to sample a wide selection of opinions for a relatively unbiased final result. NACTOY president Jeff Gilbert noted “we all evaluate vehicles in a different way.”

The journalists used their own personal criteria to choose the semifinalists slated to advance to the next round, including the Chevy Colorado. The results were announced both in the current press release and at the Huntington Place convention center.

The Chevy Colorado and the other 24 vehicles that made it past the initial selection process have been deemed “worthy of further evaluation” by the panelists, Gilbert said. October will see the NACTOY jurors participating in a comparison drive event in Michigan, providing them with the hands-on experience needed to choose between the remaining contestants.

Once the jurors have made their choices, the results will be used to cut down the number of competing nameplates in each of the three NACTOY categories – car, truck, and utility vehicle – to three vehicles. The nine finalists will be made public in an announcement ceremony at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16th.

A further selection process will ensue and the final category winners, one each for Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year, will be revealed at a separate Awards event on January 4th, 2024. The NACTOY semifinalists are shown in the following video:

As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Colorado introduces the latest third generation for the nameplate, delivering a complete overhaul to the exterior, interior, powertrain and even the electrical architecture. The Colorado’s platform mate, the aforementioned GMC Canyon, also sees this kind of redesign and re-engineering.
