No. 24 NASCAR Chevy Wins Wreck-Filled Texas 2023: Video

Some NASCAR Chevy teams walked away satisfied with the Cup Series race at Texas on September 24th, 2023, while others packed up and the left the track disappointed after an eventful Sunday outing.

William Byron became the winningest driver in the 2023 racing season, putting the No. 24 NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 back in Victory Lane for the sixth time this year. He charged into the lead with six laps to go, passing the leader, Bubba Wallace, whose No. 23 Toyota TRD Camry was arguably the most dominant car all day.

“I finally got a good restart at the end, and [win] number 300 for Hendrick Motorsports, but [teammate] Kyle [Larson] really deserved this one, I’ve got to say,” Byron said after the race. “Those guys were really fast all day and I hate it for them in the end.”

As for what happened to Larson: the No. 5 NASCAR Chevy was racing for the lead with 20 laps left, sneaking to the inside of Wallace in an attempt to demote him to second place. However, Larson’s No. 5 Camaro got loose and snapped around, backing into the outside wall and critically damaging it after leading 99 laps. He finished 31st.

“We just went in there side-by-side and I lost it,” Larson explained. “Pretty bummed, but happy for William and [team owner Rick Hendrick]. Three hundred Cup series wins is incredible and a great night overall for our organization.”

Meanwhile, Kyle Busch’s No. 8 Camaro wrecked after his left rear tire failed, and he drove the damaged race car in reverse all the way around the track to get to Pit Road. He’s now below the Playoffs cutoff line with two races left in the Round of 12.

Finally, Ross Chastain’s No. 1 NASCAR Chevy rallied back to a second-place finish despite battling with throttle issues throughout the entire race.
