Hot Wheels is bringing back the ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser drag racer known as Candy Striper, or at least it will if fans unlock the model in a new crowdfunding effort. The toymaker produced 4,000 units of the 1:64 edition in 2015, and apparently, demand has been high enough to justify a new exclusive through the Hot Wheels Red Line Club. Less than a month remains to fully fund the new model.
At 1:18 scale, the Candy Striper ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser features more than 150 individual pieces, with a huge number of cool details packed in. A 454 Big Block is seen in the engine bay, complete with chrome valve covers, a chrome supercharger, dual quads, headers, and even individual spark plug wires. The front steering works, and there are detailed suspension components as well, while the pink-and-white interior shows an authentic dash, instrument panel, shifter, and much more.
The body is draped in Spectraflame pink, matched with a white roof and pink striping, while the windows are tinted light blue. A set of chrome wheels wrapped in Real Rider tires sit in the corners.
Hot Wheels has four tiers to unlock, the first of which includes just the die-cast 1:18 model, requiring 10,000 backers. At 13,000 backers, a replica 1:64 die-cast car is unlocked, while tier three is unlocked at 16,000 backers, and includes a plug-in flame exhaust and smoke stands that make the car look like it’s doing a wheelie. The fourth and final tier is unlocked at 19,000 backers, and includes all of the above, plus a display plinth and drag strip background scene.
Pricing for the Candy Striper ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser is set at $250. The crowdfunding effort is set to end on October 9th, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. PT. As of this writing, the effort has 3,625 backers, or 36 percent funding.

Gotta have one. My dad’s blue 55 was the first family car I remember us having when I was a kid. It got t-boned one winter in an icy intersection and we got a red 63 Impala 2-door HT to replace it.
talk about gouging your customers. this redline stuff is is picking the pockets of the freshly creamed.
WoW, hot wheels RLC wants to try to release another version of this candy striper. I purchased this car in 2015, and it’s a beautiful car.
I’m paid up and hoping that it reaches the 10,000 goal. If interest is higher, all the better!
250 for a toy car I know they company has a lot of labor invested in this unit but holy cow pass some of the profits down to the customers for once
Cool car, expensive toy. I saw the real Triassic 5 recently being trailered south of Green Bay. Wish I could have taken a picture, but I was driving. Cool car too.
