The mid-engine C8 Corvette plays the part of an exotic quite well, but the C8 Corvette Z06 takes things to all-new levels thanks to its high-revving, naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine. Spinning to an eye-widening 8,600-rpm redline and cradling a flat-plane crankshaft, the LT6 is quite the motor, even in stock guise. Now, the folks at Late Model Racecraft (LMR) are giving this C8 Corvette Z06 even more pep in its step thanks to a set of high-flow catalytic converters.
LMR recently posted this C8 Corvette Z06 dyno run to social media, providing us with a sweet little morsel of ear candy in the process. The video clip is just a few seconds long, but that’s all it takes for the mid-engine sports car to blast through the gears and spin the rollers up to its sky-high redline.
According to the social post, this particular C8 Corvette Z06 Is equipped with G-Sport high-flow catalytic converters. No word on what sort of power gains the new cats provide. Notably, LMR currently does not list any performance packages for the C8 Corvette Z06 on its website, although it does offer a few options for adding forced induction to the C8 Stingray, which can boost output up to a ridiculous 1,500 horsepower and 1,250 pound-feet of torque.
As for the C8 Corvette Z06, the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 produces a maximum of 670 horsepower at 8,400 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 6,300 rpm, all of which is sent to the rear tires via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission co-developed between GM and Tremec. Highlight features for the engine include all-aluminum construction, direct fuel injection, a 12.5:1 compression ratio, titanium intake valves, sodium-filled exhaust valves, and an 8-quart dry-sump oiling system. The LT6 was also recently recognized with a spot on the 2023 Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems list.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess. My ears are more in-tuned for a classic big block or hi-po small block engine. That clip sounds like a Dyson or Hoover on full-freak out. No thanks.
I have to agree.
There is no sound better than the classic v8.
Not sure why anyone would want this sound.
At low RPM it sounds like a 4 cyl motorcycle
Same here… I’ve been asked why I keep a clunky 427 and not go LS. Nothing beats that 427 heartbeat!
Spot on, same here, nothing like the old school firing order, 18436572 sounds way better than 18726543 hands down. Yet that vette still sounds better than an EV:)
“Sounds better than an EV”…glad it’s just an opinion.
I love old school as much as the next person, but I dig the new stuff as well. If Dyson or Hoover sounds like this, I’m buying them this afternoon and riding them around the neighborhood just to piss off the neighbors.
That’s “you’re” but I think it’s past your ability to understand from another dinosaur – which you also misspelled.
THATS WHAT BOTHERS YOU, PUNCUATION.
you have no life
“Punctuation” is critical in understanding the difference between knowing your sh*t and knowing you’re sh*t.
😉
My cross plane car has more torque for a legit fraction of the price, and sounds fantastic in the Golden Mean midrange RPM making power. Went larger pipe more air deeper tone idle, X pipe moves more air higher RPM. To each their own, certainly the vehicle looks and performs well. Honestly prefer a cross plane crank, NA, no screws or dog bones. Straight legit NA power, cross plane, plenty of torque, auto trans, smooth ride, must corner and stop well.
It all depends on preference, and what you want to do. Get plenty of compliments on the sound, not too loud, just good quality Magnaflow.
The old wise man top of the mountain is never a young buck for good reason.
You win the award for the most bizarre posting on this site. Your assertion that old Corvettes are “rendered worthless” is nonsense. Old Corvettes such as the C1 and especially the C2, in fully restored condition, sometimes sell for more than a new C8 ZO6. The much more recent C7 ZO6 also sells for big money. While I like all generations of the Corvette, including the C8, sounding like a Lamborghini is NOT a good thing, for a lot of people. The whiny sewing machine sounds too much like a highly revved super bike. I’ll take the glorious sound of my supercharged C5 with masculine Borla ATAK exhaust over the wimpy, feminine European sound. To each his own, I suppose.
As an owner of one of these “BAD BOY’s” I must tell you.. If you hear this engine in person, it’s the sweetest sounding engine ever.
EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone takes their coffee a little bit different, while some may not care for this particular sound others will find it intoxicating. While I can appreciate the sounds of an older big block L-88 Corvette going through the gears of an old world M-22 Rock Crusher manual transmission, these newer engines also have their place in a modern Corvette’s history books. Sadly for some of us “old world dudes” we’re stuck in a period of time we better relate to, and that’s not a bad thing, but it’s obvious these newer Flat Plain Crank DOHC engines are the future of modern ICE technology and I fully welcome what the Chevy Engine Engineers have accomplished, as much as I love and appreciate my older C-5 Corvette, after driving a new C8 I can attest to it amazing performance levels, it’s that damn good of a sports car and rivals just about anything else out there at three times the price! We’re I younger with decent amount of cash, there is no doubt I’d own one of these C8 Z06’s, if for no other reason that it’s an experience in life that has to tried to be believed, it’s just downright incredible!
Ok, ‘nuff said.
There’s virtually no chance the C7 ZO6 will decrease in value any time soon, and it, in some cases, sells for more than a new Z06. There’s nothing boring or bland about ANY Corvette’s body lines. The C2, especially, has a timeless design, and I love the C5 design so much that I have owned 4 of them, including my current two supercharged beasts. If I buy a C8, it will be the Stingray with an aftermarket supercharger or twin-turbo kit, not the Z06, because the Stingray will sound much better, especially with the right aftermarket exhaust.
I hope someone comes up with the C8 ZO6 FLAT PLANK SOUND OUT OF REACH PRICE TAG FOR A REACHABLE PRICE TAG FOR NONE C8 ZO6 Base C8. LT 1 NO ZO6 STINGRAY CORVETTE FLAT PLANK SOUNDING MUFFLER FOR A $72.000 C8 LT1 stingray SOUNDING LIKE A $172. 000 C8 ZO6 OR IM WISHFUL THINKING
Cars should be “seen, not heard”…
We have enough noise pollution. ‘ be nice to be more respectful of others’ right to peace and quiet.
Jaxon, one man’s noise is another man’s music.
On the contrary. thats half the fun, but not muscle cars. flat plane Ferrari, screaming engines.
your clearly not a car guy.
and there not screaming all the time just here and there.
Negative! I’m a huge car guy, studying exterior design since the late 50’s.
Just feeling beat down buy ICE engines/exhaust which led to my Leukemia…yes
benzene exposure in heavy smog growing up in a car culture. Proven
Very sorry that you have leukemia, but what does that have to do with noise pollution/loud exhaust. I think your issue is with air pollution, not noise pollution. Anyway, best wishes for your quickest and fullest recovery.
Well, to me, loud exhaust and loud rock ‘n roll are exhilarating and represent some of the best American inventions.
I guess you really wouldn’t like my Harleys… Both of my cars have a nice rumble not necessarily loud now my truck well that may be another story since it has purple hornies right off of the headers and a very healthy 350. She’s a beast! 😎
Might be one of the dumbest things I have ever read. You sir are a winner!
I was at Ron Fellows Corvette owners school two weeks ago. Our class consisted of 2groups of six Stingray owners and one group of six Z06 owners. I cannot describe how capable the Stingray is on the track both by its performance and the sound emanating from the LT2 V8.
That said, the Z06 sounds absolutely amazing while being put through its paces on the track. Many of us Stingray owners went outside just to listen to the Z06’s while they were out on the track. Different sound, but still glorious to listen to.
The LT6 is the perfect mix of old school muscle with high revving flat plane crank sounds!
I’ll take the ripsaw roar and lopey cam exhaust. Get behind the wheel (or stand behind) a 67 427/435 ( non-side exhaust, my preference) or 70-72 LT-1 and you’ll see what I mean.
In full song passing by ,too.
As well, I’m old school 409 cu, 427cu, I love hearing the sound of the loping of the cam and low tone. I know, different technology. I get it. I rather change my exhaust to a growling system.
