The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 represents the sixth model year of Big Red’s fifth generation full-size pickup. For the new model year, the Sierra 1500 features only a few updates and changes compared to the preceding 2023 Sierra 1500 as well as the refreshed 2022 model.
Among the changes to the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 were the deletion of a few exterior colors from the truck’s available palette and their indirect replacement by two new hues for 2024. Today, we’re looking more closely at all the paint colors available for the 2024 pickup.
As GM Authority reported back in April, two previously available paint colors are being phased out from the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. These include Pacific Blue Metallic (color code GA0) and Sand Dune Metallic (GTL), which were originally introduced with the 2019 and 2022 model years, respectively. Their indirect replacements are the Downpour Metallic (GXP) and Thunderstorm Gray (GNO) paint colors.
After these changes, GM offers a total of 11 exterior paint colors for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. Availability of these colors is distributed across the eight trim levels of the 2024 Sierra 1500 – Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate – as shown on the following table:
Paint Color | Color Code | Cost | Pro | SLE | Elevation | SLT | AT4 | Denali | AT4X | Denali Ultimate |

- Downpour Metallic no longer available on Elevation as of November 2023 production.
- Summit White no longer available on Denali as of March 2024 production.
- Thunderstorm Gray available on Denali and Denali Ultimate as of March 2024 production.
Summit White (color code GAZ) is the only no-charge exterior color. It’s available across all trim levels except the Denali Ultimate, and since March 2024 production, the Denali. All other paint colors for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 are extra-charge, with most priced at an additional $495. Volcanic Red Tintcoat (GNT) is priced at $645 while White Frost Tricoat costs an extra $1,095.
As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is motivated by a significant lineup of powerplant options. These include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (now branded as TurboMax), rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine generating 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and finally, the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
One significant engine change for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is the use of the LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax as the standard power source for the off-road-oriented 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X. The atmospheric L87 V8 engine, formerly the only powerplant for the Sierra AT4X, is now available as an option.
Under the body panels, the GM T1 platform continues to provide structure for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. Production is currently under way at both the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.

WHY is every color not available on every trim level. That is stupid. GM has played this game for years.
That is very upsetting when looking for or ordering a new vehicle.
I hope GM changes that and starts finally thinking about the wants of the customer.
Have they got to 50 shades of grey yet??
Okay, but have they fixed the 10+ year old issue with fuel management and lifter/push rod problems yet? I’m still spending thousands on my 2017 and there is no fix for that ..
My only complaint is the paint on my 2022 Denali scratches too easily.
It’s all water based paints now. GM is going cheap. Onyx black is the worst color but also the most beautiful color but because it ass water based paint now it’s way to easy to scratch and chip and buffing is very temperamental.
Every color other that white is an up charge. Why?
Green Exterior Paint can be offered on these trucks, but in the past, it hasn’t been a highly requested color option amongst Dealerships or the Customers so if gm introduces a Truck in Green paint, within a year or so it’s already being discontinued.
I remembered the 2011 Silverado HD being offered in Steel Green Metallic, it certainly had an eye catching appearance when I saw it in person; but you didn’t see too many in that color on the streets.
A charge for EVERY color except Summit white?…sneaky way to charge for nothing. No a single green color?
If you all come with the color Estate Green for the Texas edition GMC Sierra I bet u all would take over the truck selling market !! In 2005 I owned a Ford Explorer Sport Trac !! People loved the style & that color!!
Estate Green
All the 2020 and 2021 have lifter problems and oil consumption
Having just retired earlier this week, I was going to gift myself a Sierra 1500 AT4, but being the Downpour Metallic is not available with that trim I was willing to downgrade to the Elevation to get that color & still maintain a somewhat mono-chromatic look. Well, the Downpour Metallic is no longer available on that trim either!! WTF, GMC, I don’t really care for any of the other colors you have available?!?!? For the first time ever, I was going to jump ship from the Ford family after 33+ years of only buying FoMoCo, but they’ve been pissing me off lately with their own offerings and the way they package their options with crap I don’t want or need, their poor QC issues & their sky-rocketing prices. Guess I may need to look at the Ram.
Color choices are horrible ! Black, white pearl ,blue, silver and blue black for a $85,000 Ultimate !!! Are your marketing folks sleeping at the helm ?? Why do you want to look like everyone else out there ? How about Pearl Beige, metallic blue, maroon, dark gray metallic ??? Ultimates look like a Walmart vehicle in your offered colors, the vehicle is fabulous and deserves to look like a Bloomingdale’s offer. We are willing to spring for the $$$$ but don’t want to look like everyone else on the road !
