In the 2023 edition of the Canadian Vincentric Best CPO Value Awards, the GMC Sierra HD received recognition for being a value-minded truck.
According to the data compilation company, the heavy-duty lineup of the GMC Sierra pickup – which includes the 2500 HD and 3500 HD – was recognized for being a good certified pre-owned (CPO) value, while the Ford Ranger and Ram 1500 also garnered awards in the pickup category. This is notable considering that the Sierra HD was the only General Motors vehicle to receive such recognition.
It’s worth noting that Big Red also received an overall brand award, along with the likes of Toyota, Audi, Ford, and Volvo.
For reference, the 2023 Canadian Vincentric Best Value Awards is an annual study that analyzes the cost of ownership based on several factors, including depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost, and repairs. By using a statistical model, category winners were identified by measuring which vehicles had lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price. Each vehicle was evaluated in all ten provinces – as well as the Northwest Territories – using a range of insurance profiles and an annual driving distance of 20,000 kilometers.
Categories included passenger cars, luxury cars, SUVs and vans, luxury SUVs, and trucks.
As a reminder, the current 2024 GMC Sierra HD is mostly equipped as standard with the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional on most trims and standard on the range-topping Denali Ultimate. The updated Duramax boasts 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, up by 25 horsepower and 65 pound-feet.
Regardless of engine option, every Sierra HD is equipped with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard fare.
In regard to structure, the 2024 Sierra HD rides on a more capable variant of the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.
